BC: Rachel's gum ball machine as a writer
FC: Metaphor Book
THE Writing OF | Rachel A.
 Gum Balls Of My Mind
My mind is a gum ball machine popping out ideas when I start to write.
think and write | gum balls of my mind
Borrowing quarters from parents to take a try on the marvelous machine.Bringing me back to early childhood days. I write what I know and have experienced. Reliving emotions and remembering events.
Listening to the gum ball sliding down through twists and turns into my hand. The swishing and sliding alliteration and figurative language galore. Listening to be real like life.
Sometimes the inevitable happens and the gum ball gets stuck. My idea is underdeveloped and fails. Sometimes the gum ball that is longly anticipated Very Cheery flavor like idea is in my hand and sometimes the gum ball is not a good flavor. Brown as dirt flavor.A flavor only worthy of the trash.
At times when the gum ball machine is working too many ideas come out.Too many I can chew on.
I chew different types of gum. Poems, short stories, songs, essays, and more. My family, friends and teachers get to experience my gum ball machine in action. I need many different colored gum balls like a thesaurus to make my writing diverse but still mine. I also need a printer to see the colors more clearly on the paper.
The ingredients of the gum balls shape my writing.
I try not to procrastinate when it comes to finding the right piece of gum to chew or idea to expand on. I try to get things done ahead of time before my gum ball machine breaks and I have no ideas. When I run out of gum balls I clean the machine over the summer and it starts back up again when my gum balls are restocked
Writing Influences | I am influenced by all the people, places and memories that make me who I am as a writer. The gum ball machine stores all of that for me. Without my education and life my writing would not be as colorful and full of flavor.
If a child placed their pudgy pace on the glass of my gum ball machine they would see long lasting gum balls with many layers and tastes. Long stories full of details.
As a writer I revise and revise until I have the perfect piece. When they run out, I start all over again. I strive for the best and I don't stop until the flavor craved is achieved..
My mind is a gum ball machine taking quarters like thoughts and spitting out ideas.
