FC: Our Adoption Hopes

Greetings to you -- we are John and Jennifer from Maryland. Although you have not met us, we have a great deal of admiration and respect for you. | Dear Birth Parent,

As you navigate through the process of making the best decision for your child, we empathize with the position you're in and we admire your commitment to your child's wellbeing. | Our Story

As parents, we are committed to education. We will teach and model good character, empathy towards others, good behavior, and an active lifestyle.

"A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes last forever." | We will give your child unconditional love and security. Additionally, we have a large extended family and network of friends that are supportive of our goal to adopt.

We met in 2005 and had an instant connection. Our relationship was established on common goals, interests, energy levels, and love. We both come from close families that love and support us whole-heartedly. In 2007, we married and formed a blended family with John's three children: Brian, Katie, and Allison, who live with us.

Jennifer has always looked forward to becoming a mother. John has enjoyed every stage of parenting his children. Prior to getting married, we clearly communicated to each other our strong desire to have a child together. When our attempts were unsuccessful, we turned to infertility treatment. Throughout all our efforts to have a child, adoption was always on our radar, and we were more than ready to adopt when infertility treatment proved unsuccessful.

Jennifer grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college to become a teacher. She earned a bachelors and masters degree in education and started her career as a teacher in Florida. She relocated to Maryland to be closer to her niece when her sister became pregnant.

Jennifer teaches 3rd grade. She is well liked and respected by her students, colleagues, and parents, who recognize her dedication and commitment to educating children. Jennifer often spends time reading, taking trips, playing tennis, exercising, kayaking, and hiking. She enjoys spending time with family and friends.

John grew up in Maryland and went to college in Connecticut. He returned home to start his career. John works as a director of coaching for a large soccer club in Maryland. He also operates a soccer education company devoted to player and coach development.

This past year, John's company worked with over a thousand children and hundreds of coaches. One of John's most proud accomplishments was receiving an award from the county executive for "Making a Difference in the Lives of Children".

John has two sisters; one who was adopted, and three brothers. He has a very close-knit family; his parents and siblings all live close by. John spends free time with family and friends, reading, working in the yard, and exercising.

Our children are all extremely active. They value education, spend time with friends, and participate in extracurricular activities. Although each child has many similarities, extra attention is given to individuality so their unique personalities shine through.

Brian, aged 17, will be a freshman in college next year and will play on the school's soccer team.

Katie, aged 16, will enter her senior year in high school next year. In high school, she is a three- sport athlete, a member of the student government, and national honor society.

Allison, aged 13, will be a freshman in high school next year. She plays soccer and basketball and also excels in the classroom. All three children are excited about the adoption and are looking forward to an addition to the family.

We also have two pets. Sugar is our two year old cat. Cinnamon, a Shepherd/Terrier mix, is our family dog and is very good around young children. Both pets were adopted from a shelter and get along well. In fact, they often play and sleep together.

Both of us are very fortunate to have close-knit families that spend time together. Brian, Katie, and Allison have younger and older cousins; twelve in total. We spend time with our extended family on vacations, holidays, and special occasions, and have many great family traditions that are celebrated each year by all.

The most popular are the fourth of July celebration and our many Christmas traditions, including Grandmother's craft day, when all the grandchildren gather to create tree decorations and enjoy Grandmother's delicious holiday cookies.

As our family grows through adoption, our new child will learn to appreciate adoption, as we will have open talks about his or her birth parents. We are open to pictures, letters, phone calls and visits. You will help define the level of openness.

We realize it's difficult in a few short paragraphs to really get across who we are as people and the potential adoptive parents of your child. We hope that our letter gives you a sense of us and how much we would love and treasure your child as our own.

We have been blessed with each other, with wonderful family and friends, and with personal and professional success. A child would be an additional blessing. We hope that you'll consider us as adoptive parents and we hope to hear from you.
