FC: Tate & Kathy | O U R S T O R Y

Dear Birth Mother, First off, we would like to commend you for making this difficult choice to create an adoption plan for your baby. We have a child, so we can empathies with the love and connection you already feel for your baby. We know it must take a lot of courage to choose this path, and we pray it will be the right one for you and the baby in the long run. We truly appreciate you considering us as a partner on that journey. We look forward to meeting you!

We are Tate and Kathy Beckwith. We met working in an Italian restaurant in Greeley while we were both in college. We were married in 2003 about a year after Kathy graduated. From early in our relationship we looked forward to having children. We speculated that they would be extremely smart and kind and good-looking with lots of natural talents. Wanting to be well prepared to nurture these tiny gorgeous geniuses before we brought them into the world, we spent the first several years of our marriage focusing on our careers. Kathy pursued and MBA at DU, while Tate put lots of long-hard hours into a couple different career paths. After a few years, Tate settled on a job as a Claims Adjuster with a large insurance company that keeps him out driving around town rather than being stuck in an office, which he likes. Kathy landed the job as an Investment Analyst that she had always wanted with a local bank. We both continue to enjoy these jobs, and are glad to be well established in our careers.

Having settled our careers, and taken a couple of big vacations, we decided we were ready to be parents, and began “trying” to get pregnant about five years ago. We were frustrated and confused when a year later, we were no closer to this goal. We started asking our regular doctors for help, and were referred to a fertility specialist, and then to more specialists. We spent a couple of years in this process, and tried several procedures. We were finally successful with an aggressive IVF procedure, and were very fortunate to give birth to a perfect healthy baby girl named Violet in February of 2012. Violet is a wonderful baby and has filled our lives with so much joy. If having babies is this great, we think we should have a dozen more!

Well, maybe not a dozen but we have always wanted at least two kids. We both grew up close to siblings, and want the same for our kids. We also truly did enjoy having a baby in our home, and want to have that experience again. We struggled with the decision between IVF and adoption initially, and when we found out we were only having one baby, we knew we would pursue adoption for our second. Our doctors are not very optimistic that a second round of IVF would be successful, and we have decided we would not try it again. We began researching adoption agencies even while Kathy was still pregnant. We met with several different agencies, but felt most at home at Creative Adoptions. We wanted to become a “waiting family” right away, but were advised (rightly so) that it would be best to focus on giving birth to our baby first, and then start the adoption process. We did, and we were glad, but we kept in touch and began the process as soon as we could. We are so excited about the adoption process and a praying that God will bring the right Birth Parents & Baby into our lives soon! We feel like we had a unique and exciting journey bringing Violet into the world, and we are looking forward to a completely different unique and exciting experience bringing this new baby into our family.

Tate was born in California, and grew up in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He enjoyed growing up in a small town, and stays in touch with several friends from there. We visit Glenwood often. Growing up Tate loved to play sports, particularly baseball through high school. He was also very involved with his youth group at Church. He has fond memories of family vacations to beach cottages in California, and looks forward to taking similar trips with his own family. After high school, Tate spent a couple years in the Coast Guard before college. | Tate is a Claims Adjuster handling homeowner's claims for a large insurance company. It's a 9-5 Monday-Friday job that keeps him mostly out driving around town and meeting with people all day. He is usually home by late afternoon to wrap up his day, and he enjoys spending this time with Violet. When he's not working, Tate mostly likes to spend time relaxing with family and friends. He loves football, and is a force to be reckoned with in two fantasy football leagues that he has participated in for years. Tate played Rugby in college, and he and his former teammates get together to watch Rugby regularly in the summer. He also enjoys golf and movies. Tate is an excellent cook. He watches a lot of cooking shows and cooks for us regularly at home. Our family and friends love to come over for meals Tate has prepared. He is also pretty handy around the house from small fix-it projects to large remodeling projects. Tate is a wonderful father, and has really enjoyed having Violet around. He is constantly teaching her about the world around her. He looks forward to teaching our kids practical life skills like cooking and DIY. He also looks forward to supporting them in sports, which he hopes they will participate in for many years.

Kathy is a very dedicated mother, and considers the success and happiness of her kids to be her most important job She plans on spending lots of time helping with homework and getting the kids involved in other activities. She hopes they will be good students and enjoy something artistic in addition to sports. | Kathy was born in Cleveland, and grew up in Denver and Littleton, Colorado. She went to a small Catholic school K-8th grade, and has fond memories of the tight knit community her family was a part of there. Kathy’s big extended family is very close despite living all over the country. She spent most of her summer vacations growing up traveling to visit them in small groups or big family reunions. She still enjoys traveling to see family, and looks forward to doing more of this with her kids. Kathy spent a semester studying abroad in Ireland during her sophomore year in college. Kathy is an Investment Analyst for a local bank. She works downtown 8-5 Monday-Thursday, and works from home on Fridays. She likes her job and plans to continue working. In addition to work, Kathy has been pursuing her Chartered Financial Analyst designation for the past few years which takes up a lot of her free time. She hopes to finish that this year. When she is not working or studying, Kathy spends most of her time with family and friends. She volunteers in our Church nursery. She is a runner, and likes to run races with friends on the weekends. Kathy and her sister have run two half marathons together, both of which they traveled to. Kathy is the family planner, and keeps us busy traveling, going to parties, trying new restaurants, and just generally staying active. She makes sure our family has strong ties to other family members and friends and has a lot of fun!

Violet is a really good baby and having her in our home has changed our life in so many wonderful ways. She is very sweet and loves to snuggle. She is generally good natured, she laughs easily, and will let anyone hold and play with her. She is also very curious and serious when she explores the world around her. She loves books and music. She really loves to be outside looking around in her stroller. We have been amazed at what a good baby she is. She has been sleeping through the night in her own bed since she was 6 weeks old, and she will eat anything we try to feed her. Violet is fascinated by other kids, and likes to play with them. We are sure she will make a great big sister, and will love having another baby in the house. | Violet Shannon Beckwith Born February 6, 2012 at 4:42 pm 7lbs 2oz. 19in.

Since we both grew up and went to college in Colorado, we have lots of family and friends in town we are still close with. Most of them have kids, and we get together often.

 Our Friends | ...........................................

 Our Family | ..............................................

We are very close with our large family. Our parents and most of our siblings live in Colorado, so we can see them often. We also have lots of extended family around the country we love to visit.

Tate's Mom Linda is grateful to have a lot of grandkids and great-grandkids in her life, particularly after we lost Tate's Dad Larry last year. Each one is unique and has a unique story of how they came in to the family. She is excited about the adoption, and can't wait to tell this unique story too. | Violet looks forward to having a sibling, and all her cousins look forward to having a new baby around. The older ones like Joslyn like to babysit, and Eli, the youngest before Violet, loves having little kids around to play with and teach everything he knows. | Cousins | Grandma Linda

We will consider our Birth Parents to be a members of our extended family, the same way we do with our close fiends. We look forward to meeting you! | Violet is Kathy's parents first and only grandchild so far. They were fortunate enough to both retire shortly before she was born so they get to spend a lot of time with her. They look forward having more grandkids in their lives! | Grandma & Grandpa

We live in a 4 bedroom house in Lakewood, which we just moved into this Summer. It is close to Kathy's parents and many of our fiends. The neighborhood has lots of families, and there are plenty of parks and trails close by. Tate and Kathy both work full time Monday-Friday. Violet spends 2 days a week with Kathy's parents, and 2 days with our niece who comes over to our house. Kathy works from home on Fridays. Tate is usually home by late afternoon to spend time with Violet. Kathy gets home around 6, just in time for Jeopardy which we all like to watch together. Then we have dinner, bath-time, and read books before bedtime. Our work-week stays pretty busy with this routine, but we try to stay flexible to get together with friends and family when we can. We often play trivia with Tate's sister and her family on Thursdays. Since our workweek keeps us so busy, we really try to find time to relax on the weekends and just spend time enjoying Violet who grows and changes so quickly. We usually spend some time working on a never-ending list of household projects and chores. We do a monthly rotating game night with a close group of fiends and all of our kids. We also try to visit Tate's Mom in Glenwood as often as we can. We go to church on Sunday mornings.

We love living in Colorado and in our house in Lakewood, so we plan to stay there for a long time. There are a lot of good school options in Jefferson County, and we plan for our kids to go to public schools. Education is important to us, and we will stay very involved to make sure they are successful. We have already begun a college savings fund. In addition to school, we hope our kids will play sports, play instruments, and participate in any other activities they are interested in. We expect them to stay busy and active, and expect our relaxing weekends to disappear. Both Tate and Kathy expect to keep working, because we think it is the best way to provide the life we want for our family. We hope we will lead by example to teach our kids the value of hard work. We plan to travel with our kids as much as we can to visit family and see interesting places. Most of all, we hope that our family is close, our kids are healthy, happy and successful, and that we live a long life enjoying them. | Our Plans | Our Plans
