15: Merry Christmas! Year 2009 has been another joyful year filled with God’s many blessings. I am happy to say that for once it has been a “boring” year, no more additions to our family. In May we had the privilege to take a vacation with all Laurie’s family. We drove three cars through the night to N.C. to visit Laurie’s sister Mary. (Mary recently moved up here, so no more excuses to take vacations anymore). We, 24 of us- 7 of them age 2 and under, stayed at a house on the ocean. We also had our own pool, kiddie pool, fenced in sand box, volleyball court, recreation room needless to say we had a blast! Jason continues to work at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. He is always busy playing with the boys, repairing an automobile, finishing something on our house, fixing something which left him very little time to bow and gun hunt. Oh well, I guess there was not much to see this year anyways. Laurie continues to work as a dental assistant at Dental Associates part-time. This year she switched from general dentistry (because her dentist was promoted to clinic director at another clinic) to pediatric dentistry. Well, pediatric dentistry has been interesting to say the least. She also teaches Sunday school for grades K and 1. Laurie enjoys spending time with all her boys, being a referee (the boys wrestle, fight, play already!), and outdoor activities (gardening, volley ball, taking the boys for bike rides). Gavin is now 2 years old. He loves being a big brother, tractors, reading books, and helping Dad fix things. I asked him if he would like a dog and he said ”No, I want a cow, so I can get a BIG tractor like Papa’s to feed the cows”. Garrett is now 1 years old. He follows in his brothers footsteps in many ways. He loves tractors, being outside, driving, reading books and being a big helper. He has started to say a few words, one of them being “tractor”. Whenever he gets the chance, he is always trying to harass his big brother. And than there is baby number three. We do not know if the baby is a boy or a girl, yet. We do not know what the baby name is going to be, yet. In fact, we do not even know if there is going to be a baby number three, yet! We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a new year full of God’s blessings. Let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas, our dear Savior’s birth.

30: CAMPING | We went camping at Mill Bluff State Park camping site #9? It had an empty field next to us where we played kick ball. A very nice small campground with a nice small beach. Steven, Ashly, Brandon, Ethan, Elizabeth, Patti Erik, Emery, & Bill joined us. | Garrett peeing in the bushes!
31: For Jason's 30th Birthday we rented a group campsite at Buckhorn State Park campsite #B1. The kids had a ton of fun pushing each other in the cart. We had a lot of fun harassing "the drunk democrat". The Butzke family also joined us for this camping adventure.
32: Maedke Camping | Following the Maedke tradition waking, but this time we woke Papa up!

38: FLORIDA | FLORIDA | 15 people rode in two vehicles "the silver bullet" (Moore's Dodge Grand Caravan) and "the tank" (Pickering's Expedition) down to Florida. Our trip to Florida was adventurous to say the least. At 9p.m. the alternator of the expedition died. We could not get an alternator till 6 a.m. when the stores opened. We were determined to drive anyways, so they swapped batteries with "the silver bullet" 4 times throughout the night. for over 500 miles. The first time it died on a dangerous overpass three police cars assisted us. Gavin, Garrett, and Emery received their first police car ride. and hopefully their only.! | We rented a 5 bedroom house on the beach with our own private heated pool. One morning we watched dolphins swim by while eating breakfast.

51: Merry Christmas! In June we had the privilege to take a vacation to Gatlinburg, Tennessee with all of Jason’s family, except Scott-who was deployed to Iraq. We, 21 of us including 11 kids, drove through the night to Gatlinburg where we rented a 5 bedroom house in the Smokey Mountains. We had a mamma bear and her two cubs come within five feet of our house. We went tubing down the river of the waterfalls, did zip line in the mountains, went swimming, toured Ripley’s Aquarium with an underwater tunnel, and enjoyed time with our family. Yes, we were spoiled this year and took two Family vacations! We went to Florida with some of Laurie’s family. We, 15 of us including six kids 4 and under, drove through the night in two vehicles to Florida. Although during our drive the Expedition’s alternator suddenly died. The first time it died it was in a dangerous spot alongside the highway and Gavin, Garrett, and Emery (their cousin) received their first and hopefully their only police car ride to safety! We drove 500 miles with no alternator (because all stores were closed until morning) meaning we did an emergency pullover on the side of the highway (a little nerve wrecking) and swapped batteries with the other vehicle four times throughout the night. Jason changed the alternator in the morning at breakfast in Cracker Barrel’s parking lot. Anyways, we had a great time living alongside the ocean in our rented five bedroom house. One morning while eating breakfast at the kitchen table we saw dolphins swimming in the ocean. We went on a glass bottom boat ride, to an aquarium, swam in our private pool, hung out at the beach, and saw many jelly fish and dolphins. Jason continues to work at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. Jason enjoys playing and wrestling with the boys. In his “spare time” he is busy repairing an automobile, finishing something on our house, fixing something which left him very little time to bow and gun hunt, again this year, but somehow he still managed to shoot a doe. Laurie began the beginning of the year working as a part-time pediatric dental assistant. Since May, she has been enjoying being a stay-at-home mom. This past summer she ran in a couple races. She enjoys taking the boys on many bike rides to Campbellsport and Kewaskum. Maybe, next year we’ll make it to Eden! Jason and Laurie played on “the Pickering” volleyball team again this summer. In September Laurie had her first surgery, an emergency surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy at almost 11 weeks pregnant. The baby was located in the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. All in all, we were very blessed given the circumstances. Gavin is now 3 years old and Garrett is now 2. They are very close brothers and best of friends. They like to play, wrestle, and argue. The first thing Garrett asks when he wakes up is “Brother, where are you”? They like most of the same things: tractors, driving their Gator, the sandbox, anything outside including camping, trains, reading books, helping Dad fix things, and helping mom cook. They enjoy story/activity hour at the library and nature hour at the local DNR station. When I asked Gavin if there was anything else he likes so I can add it in the Christmas letter he replied, “and I like presents”.
