6: Nine-hour Roadtrip to Albuquerque The girls loved the fact they could run around. "MUCH better than the Van for long trips. But, this time Dad was stuck in his "Carseat" the whole time! It was difficult to drive because it was SO WINDY! But, Dad had plenty of help; Ava was Co-Pilot and Lily was Junior Co-pilot. Grandma played with the girls ... and Mom slept most of the way!

8: Filling up the 90-gallon tank for the first time was an experience! Who knew you needed to put a hose on each side! Grandma played a joke on Daddy for driving a tour bus!

9: We arrived in Albuquerque too late to register our RV and had to park in a line overnight! Luckily we rented a fully self-contained RV ... although we had to turn our generator off after 10pm. Mom and dad took a cab to pick up the rental car at the airport. On the way back they stopped at the Frontier Restaurant for some food! Of course, Dad got green chiles on EVERYTHING!

10: We woke up to RAIN!! All the balloon festivities were canceled. Dad was extremely nervous about having to park the RV, but one of the men guided him well. Once that was over with, Dad was able to relax! Mom and Grandma made breakfast. Then we just waited for the rain to stop so we could go see the festival grounds. Since there wasn't much happening, Grandma scored at Krispy Kremes - 1/2 dozen donuts for $2 ... plus free hats!

12: We decided to take a tram ride to the top of Sandia Peak -- apparently so did most of the people attending the Balloon Festival! We waited in line for 2 1/2 hours!

13: By the time we boarded the tram it wasn't raining anymore ...

14: It was actually SNOWING!!

15: We couldn't really see anything at the top, so we literally turned around and got in line to go back down ... another 1-hour wait! We were so tired and hungry by the time we arrived at the base that we went to a Mexican restaurant and then called it a day!

16: We started hearing helicopters at 4am. At 5:15am Mom received a text message that the skies were clear and the Morning Sessions were on. By 6am we were at the field ... FREEZING!!!

18: We waited a long time ... the sky was clear, but the winds were strong. For a while, It seemed that the only balloons we were going to see we the ones they were selling on a stick. Then, trucks started pulling up and crews unloaded their gear. Slowly, one by one, huge hot air balloons started to rise and filled the horizon.

22: Mass Ascension

33: After a little rest and relaxation, we headed back for the Evening Session. This time we were a bit better prepared ... lawn chairs and new socks and shoes!

39: By dark, Ava was so over it! "OK, I get it ... so there are balloons everywhere! Can we just go back to the bus and play in the sand?" She did liven up in time for the fireworks!

55: We stopped in Santa Fe for lunch at the Senna's on our way back to Denver.
