The Fillebeck Family - Page Text Content

BC: This is the story of Frank and Catherine Fillebeck. Frank came to the United States through Ellis Island. He moved to Hammond Indiana where he married Catherine Grenen and had their first three children, Max, Josephine and Marie. They moved to Osakis, Minnesota where Madge, Tillie, Joe and Emma were born. Emma died in a playground accident at the age of seven. Max Fillebeck was discharged from WWI and immediately homesteaded in South Dakota, near his sister Josephine Mckenna's ranch. He later moved to Decatur Nebraska and worked as a butcher in Nick Barr's local grocery store. He married Dora Benner of Walt Hill, Nebraska. They had four children: Evelyn, Frank, Doris and Delois. Max, ill with heart disease, moved back to his parents home and passed away in 1945. Dora moved the children to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she worked as a beautician. To support the family, young Frank enlisted in the Korean War effort while still in high school. The girls graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.
