FC: Words of Wisdom for New Parents

We decided it was too hard to narrow down our vast, perfect parenting experience of almost 53 years, so we're sending some philosophical words instead: | Parenthood - the climb is worth the view | Keep calm and carry on | Barbara | Tom

During the first weeks of your new baby's life, quickly respond to your baby's cries. And do not be afraid to nurse him/her whenever he seems hungry, even if it's not according to "schedule". You will begin establishing your baby's most important psychological task: his sense of trust. By doing this, you will gradually learn the meaning of his various cries and facial/bodily expressions, and begin to create a bond that will last a lifetime. Welcome to your forever-changed life! | "Babies are such nice way to start people" | Kathy

Babies are born with their own personalities which we cannot change or alter. The parents' job is to understand and appreciate these personalities, and learn to love and support them for the unique individuals they are. | Pete

Sweet Baby | There will be lots of pictures taken of this baby, but be sure to record her voice too. (I'm betting she's a girl). I regret we don't have a recording of Dan at 3 years old serenading us with "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (all verses, flawlessly) on Christmas Eve. When she's 16 and driving your crazy, you can replay her sweet baby sounds. | "Love is the greatest gift that one generation can leave to another" | Jenny

{ | { | LOVE | Don't let other people tell you what is best. This is your baby and you will know it better than anyone else. Remember none of us had a clue what to do when we had our first child. It is a learning experience. Kids don't come with an instruction manual unfortunately. Do your best and it will work out fine. | Martha

"Children are one third of our population and all of our future" | Steve

It is best to teach by example. Actions speak louder than words. | Jan | Jan

Cherish every moment, even in the middle of the night, because you'll be surprised at how fast time flies! | Be consistent - say what you mean and mean what you say | Have a good sense of humor | Above all, enjoy the wonder of the life you've created together! | Be consistent - say what you mean and mean what you say. | Anne

Remember to: Look your baby in the eye, a lot! Tell your baby what you're doing and why you are doing it. Read to your baby, often. | Chris

Manolis words to live by: | Belinda | Dave

Read with your child every day. Not only does it help them learn to love reading, it affords you some cuddle time together even when life seems busy. | Ana | Peter

Trust in what you think is right. Remember that your child will be unique (and probably genius, with you two as parents!). Books will not hold all of the answers. Trust your instincts as to what is best for your child. People before things. Even though it may not seem like it at 2:00 a.m., time passes too quickly. Make the most of your time with your child while you can. One of the best things about babies is how they completely turn your world upside down. It is hard to imagine how absolutely in-love with this new little being you will be. | Amy

Each child is a loving and complex little thing - absorbing more than you could ever know. Pour in love, foster inquisitiveness, explore together, teach fairness (and some manners don't hurt). Record as much as you can on video - it will make you cry sooner than you think. Saying 'no' to them is perfectly fine. Read to them often. Hugs and kisses are hard to overdo. Wrestle. Love them intensely. | Rick

Will | Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. | "A new baby is like the beginning of all things - wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities" | Natalie

Always remember to use a burp cloth when you burp your baby. Also remember to cut round foods (like grapes and hot dogs) into quarters or halves to prevent choking. | Maya

Ella | The actions and decisions you make for your life affect your child's life. So set a good example.
