One day, while visiting their great grandparents house, Zahn and Ava heard a story about a man who had lived there long ago. His name was Henry Kramer and people thought he had a hidden treasure on the property. When he was dying he tried to tell where it was buried but his words were faint and hard to understand. He muttered something that sounded like “man on a box”. No one could make any sense of it, and so, the treasure was never found.
But later on, while the kids were playing in the attic of the old house they found a clue.
Ava noticed an old book on the shelf titled "Man on the Box" and in it they discovered an old yellowed paper--a clue to the hidden treasure
Zahn said, "Look, Ava, that old cuckoo clock has a broken bird that doesn't come out and sing anymore. I'll bet that's where we'll find the next clue." | And, sure enough, after taking the back off the clock, the clue was found.
"Where the air of the cellar...", Zahn thinks about the clue. "I'll bet it means the hot air from the furnace. Let's check the floor registers downstairs." | Zahn read the note to Grampa Rod who suggested the darkest place would have to be the cellar. "But," he warned, "It's pretty scary down there."
Ava didn't like the prospect of going down in the cellar. "Be careful, Zahn," she told him, "there may be spiders down there."
But Zahn bravely accepted the challenge and found the clue in an old bottle.
Putting their thinking caps on, they deduced that the house within a house had to be a birdhouse in the tree house. Ava climbed up and found it right away.
Zahn figured out that the healthy reference was to an unhealthy tree, one with a hole in the trunk.
They searched all the trees with hollow places until they found the right one-- and there was the map!
Zahn explained the map to Ava. "We need to go northwest to the lonesome pine." "There it is", shouted Ava, and she led the way.
At the lonesome pine ' they studied the map ' again. It told them to go to the giant tree. But there was no giant tree. However there was a big stump where a tall tree once stood.
The map showed that they should go thirty paces from the stump in the direction of the old chicken coop
Side by side, they carefully counted off the paces.
Certain that they were in the right spot, Ava suggested using a metal detector. They got Grampa Rod's metal detector and were rewarded with a strong beep from metal in the ground
"It has to be right down there," Ava exclaimed. "The beep is really strong in that spot!"
Finding a small shovel, they quickly dug down and struck an object. Pulling it out of the hole they discovered they had unearthed a small box that was quite heavy.
"Wow, look at that, Ava," Zahn said, excited by their find. "We're rich, rich rich! We've found..... | The Treasure of Henry Kramer!
...and so, they lived happily ever after
