A group of my first graders came in after recess and said a cow had been on the playground during lunch. Then one continued with "Mrs. Hughes went out to shoot it before we could go out for recess." I asked if she meant "shoo" it? "Nope, she shot it." Would have loved to hear the dinner conversation with their parents that night! Gotta love First Graders! Andra Wyatt | '
 Janet Villines
THE FAMOUS MRS. HUGHES | Mrs. Hughes has been a part of Hodson since before the doors even opened. Whether it's celebrating the student's successes on her "Wall of Fame", meeting and greeting celebrities or finding that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.... she is there! And loving every minute of it. | TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
OWASSO'S FAVORITE PRINCIPAL | Joy was voted "Owasso's Favorite Principal" in a Facebook campaign sponsored by a local flower shop. She received a beautiful bouquet of tulips for the honor. And since she doesn't "facebook", her staff logged on and showed her the results. Bravo Mrs. Hughes! We knew it all along... | DESTINATION FUN | Joy embraces fun! Even if it is somewhat reluctantly! Will it get the students excited? Will it entice them to get more involved? Then Joy is up for it - no matter what it is! She has been dunked, dressed up, and danced all in the name of fun!
Mrs. Hughes is honored during a school musical. The children sang a heartfelt and touching song to her.
There's a story about a lovely lady who loved with all her heart, who loved with all her soul. And she always tries her best to teach her fellow humans everywhere to live in harmony. Then the story was told to all the children, who knew this lovely one, who loved with all her soul. And she always tries her best to teach all the children everywhere to live in harmony.
The Kidnapping of the "Clipboard" When asked if he knew anything about this famous Hodson caper, Frank Blair replied, "Why would "I" know anything about that??? Although, I do seem to recall "overhearing" some people talking in the lounge one day about Mrs. Hughes having her clipboard out. Which was code for "Duck and Cover; Mrs. Hughes is doing evaluations". When she would walk down the hallway with her clipboard, it was like a scene from one of those old black and white westerns, where the gunslinger would ride into town and everyone would run from the street and duck into buildings. Closing their doors and drawing the shades with nothing peeking through but eyeballs to see who the unfortunate victim would be. As I "heard it", someone or some ones, claiming to be the TLA (Teacher Liberation Army) snuck into Mrs. Hughes office one evening and liberated her clipboard (the symbol of oppressed teachers everywhere) and left a ransom note for "donuts in the lounge for a week or the clipboard gets it". A polaroid was taken of the clipboard tied to a chair with the words "Help Me!" stuck under the clip and the photo left in Mrs. Hughes' mailbox. Mrs. Hughes refused to give in to their demands, so the TLA felt more drastic measures were needed. Late in the evening of the second night of the hostage situation, a crack team of commandos invaded the TLA headquarters and in the ensuing battle, the hostage was freed from captivity and safely returned to Mrs. Hughes. Actually, what happened was the clipboard was bring prepared for another picture and left unattended while someone went to find the camera; Mrs. Hughes walked in and found the clipboard. Embarrassed by their lack of security and to show that they were still a force to be reckoned with, the TLA recaptured the clipboard and it was hung by a noose in front of Mrs. Hughes' office door. At least that's the way I "heard it". Frank "it wasn't me" Blair P.S. You know it occurs to me that some really strange stuff kept happening to Mrs. Hughes. Like the time her office door disappeared or when her office got filled with newspapers.
April Fools I think one of the funniest (well some didn't think it was as funny)... On April Fool's Day, all of the teachers changed classes. We told the students we were switching for the rest of the year. Things didn't go quite like we thought...We ended up with lots of little ones crying! Tami Stull Critters Jim Hill, followed closely by Joy, went to investigate a "critter" in a locker in a third grade room. After scaring Joy half to death, it was discovered the critter was a wind-up raccoon tail in a bag of chips! Drink and Drain The plumbing at Hodson (the whole school) was out of order! The entire school population had to go by bus to the High School for "drink and drain". Backfired A little boy was sent to the office after throwing up in the classroom. When asked by the office staff, "what in the world happened?" The little boy said, "My mouth backfired." Meow A little girl visited the nurse's office, but she only spoke "cat". Unfortunately, Vicki only spoke "dog". Conversation ensued with Mrs. Hughes asking her what type of cat she was...pole cat, barn cat, wild cat, etc. | On my side... A new little boy had been in trouble multiple times the first few days of school. It became routine to see a teacher's hand in his, leading him to see Mrs. Hughes or him being walked back to her office for a "talk". By the end of the week, Joy asked the secretaries to call him in to see her. But this time, "let him know he is NOT in trouble. We need to have one conversation that is positive." He came into the office with a hang-dog look on his face, repeating his usual walk of shame. After 10-15 minutes he came out of Mrs. Hughes' office with a bright smile. He stopped between the secretaries' desks, turned, smiled, and said, "That went well!" "It did?", they replied. "Yes, she's just here to help me and she's on my side." He skipped down the hall as we grabbed the tissues. | We do not remember Days... We remember Moments

One of the greatest fundraisers ever... | One of the best parts of a Hodson Walk A Thon is seeing what "stunt" would be dreamed up for Joy to do! She has ridden a scooter, walked with aliens (and a cow), dressed up like Dolly, and gone up in a hot air balloon. | WALK A THON | All for a great cause - Hodson!
Hodson has a diverse population. All are welcome - aliens or bovine included!
 Hughes in the News
Joy Hughes, the Queen of Construction | During the latest construction (building the new office), the construction crew continued to set off the fire alarm. This caused us to have multiple fire drills/evacuations in one week. Students spent more time outside than in the classroom that week... Our time for evacuating the building became amazingly quick with all of those practice runs! | Hodson's Original Faculty helping with the new time capsule. Mrs. Hughes Mrs. Burnett Mrs. Randall Mrs. Stull Mrs. Hendershot | Here's to new beginnings...
