After military service, Joe became a logger in Quilcene, and Nancy was a homemaker and a mother to their three children: Jay, Linda and Laurie. In the 65 years as a Quilcene resident, Nancy has been active in Quilcene Grange, the Quilcene Fire Department, the Quilcene Museum, and worked as a teacher's aide for grades 3, 4 and 5. She has 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. With her partner Ted Paine, Nancy traveled to Dawson City in Canada's Yukon Territory to work on their gold claim for 11 straight summers.
