S: Maui 2012
On January 14th we left for our Maui vacation. Our first stop was Calgary and then we went to Los Angeles. We stayed at the Hacienca resort on a beautiful Californian night. The next morning we had some breakfast (oatmeal) in the airport and then flew to Maui. We arrived there at about noon there time which for us felt like 4pm. In the picture below we are at the Maui airport waiting for Ron and Mitch to pick us up.
Maui's Winery at Ulupalaku Ranch | Maui's winery started growing grapes in 1974. While waiting for the grapes to mature it was decided to try to make a sparkling wine with Maui's plentiful pinapple. The response from the public was so positive that the winery began to produce a still pinapple wine as well. While on this vinyard tour we were able to taste a sparkling and still pinapple wine, a grape wine and lastly a desert raspberry wine. Mmmm... Tastes of Maui!!!! | Bottom's Up!
Our Hotel Aston at the Maui Banyan
Lots of kite surfers were out on the windy days! | The beach across the street from our resort. The sand was fine and soft and the water was clear and warm
The walk through the jungle to get to our snorkeling spot
 Snorkeling Adventure
This road trip took us from Lahaina all the way to Paia. There were so many gorgeous stops along the way.
Lava Fields As far as you can see- Dark, rugged lava that flowed down from Mount Haleakela over a million years ago.
We did a fair amount of "grilling" and enjoyed our fancy drinks
Lahaina was a fun area with lots of shops and restaurants and a harbour. One of the world's largest banyan trees was our meeting point before our whale watching adventure. This tree has 12 major trunks and spans more than a city block
The cheeseburger restaurant on the left had a fun atmosphere and the Mala restaurant was situated right on the harbour. Here we enjoyed a fabulous fresh fish salad with our martinis
The Humpback whale is the 5th largest mammal. It travels from Alaska-3500 miles to mate and give birth in the warm hawaiian waters. They spend about 2 months here before travelling back up to Alaska
No idea, why I'm the only one under this beautiful waterfall.
We stopped and shopped in Paia (Caroline calls it Hippie town) for a while and then went out for lunch | I ordered the fish tacos which were to die for and Doug had Fish and chips. MMMM
 Paia Fish Market
