FC: Hideaway Holiday 2010
1: Christmas 2010 - New Year's 2011 *Dec. 24th & 25th* Grandpa Bill and Grandma Jan join the Buchners in Rancho Santa Fe to help them celebrate the first Christmas in their new home. On Christmas eve we went to the Village Church for a beautiful service and candle lighting, followed by a delicious turkey dinner back home. Before bed, the children trickled rice on the path for Santa's reindeer to find their way. It certainly worked. Christmas morning the house was filled with toys, games and lots of smiles. After brunch we headed back to La Quinta with a precious load of gifts: Brooke, Tyler, and Paige. This was their first sleepover without mom and dad and they did great as we got ready for the rest of the family to arrive. The rest of the Buchner clan arrived the next day on Dec. 26th. *Dec. 27th* Scott Crouch and family arrive with Max, her current boyfriend, Campbell Cargill McMillan, Morgan and Henry, the McDonalds with Jackson, Charley and Molly, and Brad with his family, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Steven, and Jake. Tonight was a casual night with a spaghetti dinner to start off the week's activities. *December 28th* Our Christmas day began with family portraits. Prime rib was served on Great Grandma Marjorie's Christmas dishes and fun table gifts added to the evening festivities. Another wonderful Christmas ended with lots of Christmas presents and banana pudding. *December 29th* A day filled with sun, swimming, tennis lessons, and a special tea party for the girls. Our evening started out with a masquerade party, including a face painter and a balloon maker. New Orleans food and information about the Mardi Gras, including the special King Cake were part of our dinner celebration. After dinner, the casino tables were set up, and all the family had a great time. Playing "Black Jack" proved to be a great math lesson for the youngsters!
2: *Dec. 30th* We began our day with a hike up in the beautiful desert mountains and "Fun in the Sun" started at 3:30pm with relay races, the limbo, a hula hoop contest, dancing the hokey pokey, and the Macarena. The day would not have been complete without the mummy wrap contest and hot dogs, hambugers, and ice cream sundaes for dessert. The karaoke machine had everyone participating, however, we think our star was Jim McDonal, as we could not seem to get the microphone away from him. *December 31st* Some of the family headed out for an ATV ride, while others stayed behind playing golf and hanging out in the sun. The house was filled with sombreros, ponchos, and maracas to get us all ready for the mariachi band. The Mexican fiesta ended with the piñatas filled with goodies. Our game show mania was set up with the sights and sounds of a real live game show. A row of four contestants squared off behind the colorful red, yellow, blue, and green game show podiums, complete with buzzers, to compete for prizes. Music, trivia and general knowledge appealed to all of our family. Everyone loved getting their teams together and answering questions. The competition was great to watch and we certainly had lots of volunteers from the children. New Year's Eve came and went way too fast, as this year's festivities came to an end. Our children and grandchildren left us with many memories to cherish. We are so thankful to have such a loving and wonderful family!!
