S: Krug Family Volume V January - April 2011
Aubrey had the slightest little bump on her head and wanted to use her Stawberry Shortcake bandaids. Then she wanted to leave it on for several days so she could show Kylee at her birthday party. When we opened the door to the party, Kylee asked, "why do you have a sticker on your head?" I'm glad I was there to rescue her or she probably would’ve died of embarrassment. I covered for her and told her how cool I thought it was and that 'we' thought you'd like it. They rolled with it. Briley very seriously came mimicking Aubrey in her need of a band aid. She made this cute little fake sad face. Well, even though there was no real owie, I could see that this was very important to her. She looks up to Aubrey so much and wants to be just like her. It was no surprise she wanted a band aid, just like Aubrey. Conrad has taken a liking to Aubrey's Zoobles and they have found a new home on the hood of the stove. They are like the little cooking ferries who watch over the food. This food chart seems to be working. Caleb came down for breakfast one day and asked for carrots so he could get his vegetable out of the way. It is good accountability for me to. One of the first days, I cheated and ate a cookie but hadn't eaten my veggies yet. Caleb worked so hard to earn his sweets and when he did he said he would wait for me to earn mine too, so we could eat them together. Oh, stick that fork in my heart deep. I didn't confess my sin to him right then, but here it is, for ever to remember. From that day on.. no cheating for mommy. I took a picture of my clean cupboard and microwave counter as a memento of my first accomplishment of my 2011 goal. Sort, Purge, Organize. Aghh. It's so nice. Briley is really getting into puzzles and she is quite good at it. Her spacial reasoning skills boost my confidence in her intelligence as her verbal skills have been lacking.
Ok, those sight words have been up there for months and they know them pretty well. Our homeschool routine has been not very routine. I've given myself permission to take it easy on them a little longer. After all, they would not be enrolled in Kindergarten until next year anyway. We just have fun learning. Ok, the story behind the Snuggie.... I won it at the MOMS Club Christmas party white elephant gift exchange. Fauna was getting rid of it, and I thought it was a steal! I joked about using it at the Flying M because I'm so cold when I go down there every Tuesday evening. Someone dared me to do it, so... I did. I think one has to be pretty secure to use a Snuggie blanket at a coffee shop. The funny thing is, after I posed for the snapshot, I used it all night and stayed toasty warm.
Play dough day turned into "run around the gym" day. All the kids were playing together in a collective effort. They rode around on the chair cart until they started going faster and faster and then it was time to put a kabosh on that. For some reason, they are all playing "dead" and that is why their bodies are all lined up in a row. Briley still gets picked up like a doll a lot. She doesn't seem to mind it that much. | Play Dough Day
This fort stayed up for about a week. The twins each took turns sleeping in it at night. I remember building forts when I was little and the excitement of sleeping in it. For some reason, laying on the stairs is something all the kids have done. I remember when Aubrey and Caleb were this size and fit perfectly from side to side as Briley does now. Wow, how time flies. Briley is also wearing one of Aubrey's old | shirts. It puts perspective on time when it doesn't feel like that long ago that Aubrey was wearing it. Aunt Linda sent Christmas gifts a little late this year, but it was perfect since the holiday buzz of new toys had died down. Aubrey got a Little Pet Shop rabbit. Briley got a black and white Fur Real kitten. She loved it! Caleb opened up a remote control car. When he first saw a toy car, he looked slightly disappointed. Then he noticed that it was a remote control car and his face light up! He was very excited and truly has always wanted one. There were markers and books as well as some candy cane chocolate bark for me and | Conrad. Linda is always so thoughtful. Her love language is definitely gifts.
MC Amelia Earhart Day Marshmallow Launching Activity | We had fun bending hangers into marshmallow launching devices. We sat in a circle and tried to hit each other with flying sugar puffs. | I've been wanting to try this experiment with leaving the shudder open while kids circled around a stationary object. We did played around a little with it, but I didn't get the effect I was hoping for.
