FC: 2011 | The Allens
1: 2011 | was a year full of adventure and new experiences. We continued to explore all of the fun things there are to do in Virginia and Washington, DC. We visited Monticello, Mt. Vernon, Great Falls, monuments and museums in DC, Luray Caverns, Barrel Oak Winery, The Shenendoah Mountains and much more. We also enjoyed going out of the town to Atlanta, Indianapolis, The Outer Banks, New York City and Disney World. When we weren't traveling or exploring the area, we were busy watching Emma and Cooper play soccer. Cooper also kept us busy with baseball and Emma was involved in Hip Hop dance and Girl Scouts. When all things settled down and we were at home you could find us watching Michigan football, IU basketball, building Legos, playing board games, or just snuggling up on the couch together. Whether we are in Virginia, or on an adventure to someplace new, when we are all together, thats when we're home.
2: Snow | Our first big snow in Virginia! Cooper and Emma loved being able to play and build a snowman. Maizy also enjoyed the first snowfall by running around the yard and chasing the kids.

8: Great Falls | When Grandma and Grandpa Cooper were visiting we decided to take a short drive over to Great Falls Park. Here, near the Nation's Capital, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as if falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through a narrow gorge. We were just amazed that this beautiful falls was so close to Washington, DC.

12: fun at the CIRCUS
13: In April, the circus came to town.! We arrived early so that we could see the animals backstage before the show began. Because we were there early, we also got to play on the circus floor. We tried on costumes, watched the clowns perform, and picked out some souvenirs. Once the show began, you guys were mesmerized.! You loved the elephants and motorcycle cage guys the best, but not as much as your sno-cones and cotton candy. | April 2011

We had seats way up in the nosebleeds, but we liked the amazing view of the whole field and DC skyline! Cooper and Emma indulged themselves with lots of treats! Emma even won a Nationals teddy bear. After the game was over, all the kids got to run the bases! Cooper got scared at the last minute and refused to run but Emma and Charlie had a blast! What a great day!
26: Emma's 8th Birthday
27: We all know that Emma loves candy so it was the perfect party for her. | For Emma's 8th Birthday, we had a candy party. You invited over several girls to join us for this 'sweet' party. Mom and Miss Jenn made your super fun candy themed cake the night before. It had all kinds of sweet treats on it. The inside was tiered 3 different colors. During the party, we made candy picture frames and candy necklaces. We also played candy games. Everyone had the opportunity to make goodie bags from the candy bar. It was one sweet adventure.

He loved getting wheel chair rides and seeing you guys and Maizy. | June 2011
30: @4th of July in Washington, DC
31: This was our first 4th of July in Washington, DC. We were so excited to head into DC with the Parnell family on July 3rd for the dress rehearsal of the fireworks on the Capitol lawn. Unfortunately, we arrived in DC the same time a giant thunderstorm did. The concert got canceled due to the weather. We headed back home soaking wet and disappointed. We spent the 4th with the Parnells at our house. The daddies did a great job putting on a firework show for us!

We then came home and had a yummy steak and baked potato dinner. After dinner, we wrote a letter to Santa and put out cookies and milk and sprinkled reindeer food on the front lawn. Then everyone got in their jammies and we sat down to read, "Twas The Night Before Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". It was then time to head to bed. It was so hard for everyone to fall asleep due to the excitement of Santa arriving that night.
