Analysis of TKAM - Page Text Content

FC: To Kill A Mockingbird | By: Marlee Mason

1: Table Of Contents | Page 1-2; setting Page 4; POV Page 5; conflict Page 6; Characters Page 7; Symbols

2: Setting | Time: 1933-1935 (During great depression) | Place: Maycomb, Alabama | The setting effects the characters because, if it wasn't southern there wouldn't really be the racism or anything.

3: The book was made during the great depression and that's where the Scottsboro trial took place also.

4: Point Of View | Narrator- Scout, first person. | Scout narrates this book so she can explain everything she saw herself, and describe everything in her own opinions. | In Jems POV.... “Scout, school is different,” I continued to explain “You can’t follow me around or bring up private things that go on at home. You have to stay with the first graders, and I’ll stay with the fifth graders.” She gave me a puzzled, almost sad look when she replied, “You mean we can’t play any more?” "We'll do like we always do at home," I explained, "but you'll see- schools different."

5: Conflict | Atticus Finch vs. Court (external)- Atticus is the attorney who is defending Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson vs. Mayella Ewell (external)- Tom Robinson is going against Mayella Ewell in court because, he is accused of raping her.

6: Characters | *Scout Finch- dynamic, changes and realizes that everyone should be given justice. *Jem Finch- dynamic *Atticus Finch- static, he stays the same strong, courageous person he was in the beginning and end *Boo Radley- dynamic, transforms into a real person instead of a mysterious figure *Bob Ewell- static *Dill Harris- static *Miss Maudie Atkinson- static *Calpurina-static *Aunt Alexandra- static

7: Symbols | *Mockingbird- the mockingbird represents innocence in the book *Boo Radley- an innocent man, who was maybe a bit of a naughty boy, as a child but never really did anything seriously wrong. He was locked away in his house, therefore "killed" *Tom Robinson- tom is innocent, and didn't do anything wrong. He is found guilty, even though it's OBVIOUS he's not, but makes a desperate attempt at freedom, and is killed. *Scout- an innocent child, whose innocence, and naivety is destroyed by the amount of discrimination in the book.
