1: Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Angkor, Cambodia, built in the 12th century during the king Suryavarman II as his state temple and capital city. It is the only temple to have remained a significant religious center since it's foundation.First It was Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu and later Buddhist temple.
3: Angkor Wat is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places on the planet. Made by the Khmer kings in a process that last almost 200 years, this magnificent area had been abandoned and hidden by the forest. Re-discovered by a french man about 150 years ago, Angkor Wat is ready to become one of the most visited archaeological and artistic sites on the planet.
5: Angkor Wat lies 5,5 km north of the modern town of Seam Reap. Angkor Wat is the prime example of the classical style of Khmer architecture-the Angkor Wat style- to which It has given It's name. The outer wall, 802m and 4,5 m high, is surrounded by 30 m apron of open ground and a 190 m wide moat. The temple is westbound, which is very rare. The temple consists of sandstones, which were brought from at the 40 km distance.
7: An interesting fact is that some of the monuments in the temple dont have heads on their body. A legend tells that they were cut off by warriors during a war.
