2: Sharing Memories

3: With Family and With Friends....... | Through the years.......

8: We use to always share Christmas. Sometimes it was at our house, the Tagliavia's in Baldwin Park, and sometimes we went to your house. The cousins were all together and it was always a wonderful time. This particular year we had gone to your house. On the way home we were talking about Santa, and the kids were wondering if Santa would have already been to our house. I looked out the car window and up in the sky I saw what appeared to be Santa and his reindeers. When I pointed up in the sky and said to the kids, "Santa and his reindeer", I told them "I think he's on his way to our house now". He was going the same direction that we were going. The kids were so excited, and me too!! It really did look like Santa in the sky. It had to have been a plane pulling a banner, but there was a string of white lights and a red light at the front just like Rudolph and the reindeers pulling the sleigh. I, myself never knew for sure what it actually was, but it was a wonderful, magical moment for us all. To this day, the kids still remember going to your house and seeing Santa on the way home. It was so exciting, that I almost believed in Santa. Kaye

9: Another memory was the year we all took a vacation together and rented the houseboat for a week at Lake Powell in Utah. Skiing, tubing, fishing - mostly carp, lot of car, and big carp, but enough good fish too, that we had several good meals cooked over and open campfire. I remember that Pat and I seemed to be the ones doing all the fishing. We all had a great time. But, on the way home our truck broke down. Ronnie and Pat had a camper on their truck and they were able to use their water to put in our radiator. So, it was stop and go on the way to the nearest town, Green Mountain. We put the truck in a little shop to get it fixed and bing that it was such a small town they didn't have the parts to fix our truck, and had to order the parts. Needless to say we had to get a room for the night, and would be ready the next night. After the 3rd day when we checked again to see when it would be ready, we were told they had to drive to AZ to get the parts. We told them if we knew that it would have taken so long, we could have had my brother in law in Phoenix get the parts and drive them up to us and it would have been a lot faster. By this time we were convinced they were after the tourist dollar. After all, in addition to the repair bill, we now had a motel bill, and 3 meals a day for 4 people from the only restaurant in town. We ended up in that town for 5 days. We were young, didn't t have credit cards back then, ran out of money, and had to have Joe's Mom and Dad wire us money. With nothing to do, we went to the local FREE museum, which was about twice the size of our motel room. Weeekend came around and we went to the local rodeo. That was a first for the kids. They had never been to a rodeo with bucking broncos, bull riding, calf roping, and lots of cowboys. We finally got the truck fixed and made it home with another memorable vacation. We had lots of fun times!! -Kaye

21: John and I wanted to learn to dance together, and thought that square dancing would be fun. So we went with Gordon and Sharlene to learn the steps. Well it wasn't too long before, we discovered that John couldn't swing me right, and nearly broke my arm. So Ron took me and Pat took John, and began working along with Gordon and Sharlene. It was tough for a while I only weighed 112lbs., so I was sun all over the place and fast too. Around and around we'd go so where I'd stop nobody knew. After a while John and I got better, and were allowed to dance together, without disrupting the square. What a journey! We went to parties at Halloween, Christmas, and visited other groups to dance. One year we went all in Gordon's big motorhome to a dance in the valley. This was a big dance, and mixed groups. We changed squares often and met new people. I got to one square with two very large women, about 6'4", dressed in their outfits. This was going to be a fast song and dance. Well, we started and off we flew. I got knocked in the head with one of these huge girls elbows. She clocked me. When I crumbled to the floor, they rushed over to pick me up. These big girls were huge transvestites. They had almost knocked me cold. I crippled off the dance floor.... with them following and apologizing. Needless to say, we decided to leave after that. They loaded me up in the motorhome, back to our place we went. They packed my spinning head in ice and we all laughed about the big he/she dancers that clocked me. After I went home, we ate dessert, and I conked out. Boy, traveling square dance clubs, take anyone don't they? We all laughed! We had many other parties and hay rides over the years, and good friendships. Now we don't dance any more, but we still go to concerts and plays together and enjoy each others company. I just joined Pat's red hat group, and we are having fun with them too! It is wonderful to celebrate all the fun and laughter we have shared over the years. GodBless! Happy Anniversary! -John and Kathi Veal
