2: THE BIG DAY Getting ready to head to the hospital on April 27th.
3: Hanging out at the hospital and waiting for contractions to start. | Daddy thought he could check out what was on TV and relax a little.
4: Avery LeeAnn Born April 28, 2010 1:39 a.m. 5 lb. 4 oz.
5: Mommy was finally able to see and touch her baby girl for a very short time around 7:20 a.m. on April 28th. Avery was then taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center NICU.
6: Grandpa and Grandma Epp went with Daddy to Wichita while Granny Janny stayed in Hutchinson with Mommy.
7: Mommy and Daddy were THRILLED to finally be able to touch their precious baby! | Mommy was released from Promise Regional Medical Center on Friday, April 30th. Grandpa Dan and Grandma Betsey took her to Wichita to finally see her beautiful baby girl.
8: Mommy and Daddy finally got a chance to hold Avery for the first time on Saturday, May 1st. Before that she had been sedated and on a cooling pad to lower her body temperature and keep her brain from swelling. | Avery already had daddy wrapped around her finger.
12: After about 2 weeks in the NICU we got moved to a private room in the special care unit. It was so nice to have our own space and be able to start doing more things for Avery on our own. | SPECIAL CARE NURSERY
13: Avery was finally pulled off all wires and tubes and we could hold her without any strings attached!
14: Right before we left Wesley hospital, we spent 2 days in a family care room. | We were basically on our own with Avery for the first time....although we still had lots of visitors!
17: After nearly three weeks in the NICU at Wesley Hospital, we were able to take Avery home on May 17th. She looked SO tiny in her car seat! Mommy was VERY nervous about the drive and stayed in the backseat the whole ride home!
18: GRAND- PARENTS
19: All the grandparents (and honorary grandparents) stopped by for a visit when Avery finally arrived home.
20: So many people came to visit Avery when she arrived home. It was great for everyone to finally get the chance to see her and hold her.

24: Angels for Avery Benefit | May 28th, 2010
25: Our WONDERFUL friends and family organized a benefit for us to help pay for our medical expenses. It was a beautiful evening filled with music, laughter, tears, food, and fun. We felt so blessed to be part of such a compassionate and generous community that rallied around us.
28: Summer Fun | Our summer was spent sticking pretty close to home. We did take a trip to Sterling to see Avery's new cousin, Rylie. We also went to grandma and grandpa's house to visit Brian and Tammy when they and their families were here.

32: Kansas City July 2010 | Our First Trip
33: Since it was Mommy and Aunt Lizzie's birthdays we left daddy to babysit while we went to get a long massage. While we were gone, Avery made a BIG mess in her diaper! Daddy was VERY stressed! As soon as we got home, Daddy took a break and Avery got a bath in Aunt Lizzie's kitchen sink. | Avery really enjoyed hanging out with Aunt Lizzie but seemed a little confused when she tried changing a dirty diaper. I think Avery could tell she was an amateur!
34: We were so excited to get to spend some time with the Hawes family when they came to visit in July. Avery had so much fun with them and Tyler even got her to smile really big. It was so cute!
35: In July we were able to get get all three great-granddaughters together to take a picture with Grandma Doerksen. It was such a special occasion and it was great to see Lily and Riley, too!
36: SUMMER SNAPSHOTS
37: On a trip to see the cardiologist, we stopped by to see Dr. Dorn, Avery's neonatologist when she was at Wesley.
38: Over Labor Day weekend we took a trip to Colorado to see Grandpa Dan and Grandma Betsey. Avery was such a great traveler. She was so quiet and happy the whole time. We were very thankful that the trip went smoothly! | Colorado September 2010

49: We took a quick trip to Colorado to see Grandpa and Grandma Downing over Thanksgiving break. Linda and Ben were there too. Linda did a great job getting Avery to smile for our Christmas card picture!

52: Visiting Santa December 2010
53: Avery did NOT like Santa. | We had to wake her up to sit on Santa's lap so she was less than happy to see a strange man with a white beard holding her.
54: CHRISTMAS | Avery had so much fun opening her presents on Christmas morning. Mommy and Daddy had to put together the fun Learn and Groove table that Santa brought. Avery enjoyed playing with it for hours that day!
56: Tammy and Brian and their families came back just before Christmas. | It was great to see everyone and get a picture with Grandpa and Grandma with all the grandkids.
58: We stopped by Great Grandma Downing's house to see Lou, Eric, Christopher, Emilie, and Bailie when they were back in Kansas.
59: Granny Janny, Grandpa Dave, Uncle Jace and Aunt Tara came to our house for Christmas. | Grandma and Grandpa Downing came for a visit over Christmas, too!
60: Avery's First Snow January 15, 2011
61: Avery finally got a chance to see what snow was like in mid-January. Mommy and Daddy took her out for just a little bit because it was SO cold!
62: EASTER 2011
63: We went to Grammy and Papa's house after church on Easter Sunday. Grammy "hid" easter eggs for Avery to find and put in her basket. Avery had fun opening them and finding all the candy and animal crackers!
64: AVERY'S 1st BIRTHDAY
65: On Sunday, May 1st we celebrated Avery's first birthday at the shelter house in the Inman City Park. So many people came to wish Avery a very happy birthday, including Grandpa Dan and Grandma Betsey from Colorado and Aunt Tammy from Utah.
