FC: INTRODUCING | Charlotte Wilkins
Charlotte - meaning: 'free woman' Vivian - named after your great-grandma
We first found out about you near the end of May, 2013. I was doing dishes while the sunshine was shining through the window and something prompted me to stop what I was doing and take a pregnancy test. After three very long minutes and pacing across the carpet, I saw two little pink lines! I felt a surge of emotion, and as you will come to find out, being the worrier that I am, I rushed to the drug store to pick up another test just to be sure. I don't know how I drove all that way, as I was a complete mess, but returned home and received another confirmation that we created a little miracle! Your dad was at work throughout all of this excitement, so I sent him a picture of our positive tests. He immediately called and we both floated onto cloud nine! Shortly after, I had an early dating ultrasound to find out how far along I was. The anticipation as the ultrasound technician was pressing on my very full bladder was nerve-wracking! Finally, she showed me a little black spot and I saw the blip of your heartbeat! I was six weeks pregnant.
We're pregnant! | Your very first picture at 5 weeks & 6 days old!
 16 Weeks
The world finally knows about you! We have been overwhelmed by the responses of love and support after sharing our news. I have been very fortunate to this point and have been feeling relatively well. Other than being tired, I skipped over all the morning sickness that plagues many expecting mothers! Everyone thinks you are a boy and will be a future NHL star, big shoes to fill! I still haven’t had a moment of mother’s intuition, and we aren’t going to find out your gender, as these days there are few things that are truly a surprise. I’m anticipating having a baby bump and feeling your first flutters! Your dad will get to see you for the first time through an ultrasound in a couple weeks!
We had our long anticipated ultrasound on September 3rd and finally got to see you! It was a family affair, as both your grandmas and your Aunty Nadine came along. After a lot of pushing on my little bump of a belly, the ultrasound technician finally showed us what she was seeing! You were squirming around so much she had trouble taking all your measurements. We got to see your little fingers and toes and you were sucking on your thumb! We could also see your heart beating and all of your tiny bones. I don't think ‘Blip’ is an appropriate name anymore, as you are already 10 ounces! So far our favorite names are Charlie, Theodore, or Oliver if you're a boy and Charlotte or Abigail if you're a girl!
 19 Weeks
We are half way there and I have finally started to feel your little kicks! You seem to be the most active during the evenings, but your dad hasn’t been able to catch your flutters yet. I’ve been having strange dreams lately but don’t seem to have any weird cravings yet. We had our follow up doctor appointment this week and your heartbeat was 163, which made the doctor believe that you are a girl! Everyone is still quite convinced you‘re a boy, so we’ll just have to wait and see! | Half Way!
You’re moving around a lot more lately and I officially look pregnant as I have quite the little bump! We’re getting the house ready for your arrival and I’m getting excited picking out nursery colors for you! We cannot wait to meet you little one! | Your dad finally felt you kicking! It was so exciting to share what I have been feeling all this time!
 Your first Halloween costume
Third Trimester | We are already in our third trimester! I cannot believe how fast time has flown by. Your dad and I love feeling your kicks and have even seen you push on my belly a couple times! Everything was great at our check up this week! Our doctor thought you were in a funny position, so we got to see you in an ultrasound, The next time will be when you're born! We will be meeting our new doctor soon and starting our prenatal classes so we can prepare for your arrival. Your dad is busy getting your nursery ready and doing some renovations in the process. This is such an exciting time!
You are definitely growing! It seems as though my belly is getting bigger each day. I think you may be learning how to do somersaults, you're already taking after your dad! I am very blessed, as I still feel great! We can't wait to meet you little one!
The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind! Around 33 weeks I was diagnosed with hypertension and had to quit working. I've been monitored closely through weekly doctor appointments and nurse visits to the house. So far everything is going fine, I'm just being watched closely so we can both stay healthy! We had an ultrasound to make sure you are developing properly and you passed with flying colors! | Your Baba and I went on a shopping spree to get all the essentials for your arrival and your nursery is almost done! We had Christmas at our house this year and everyone enjoyed feeling your movements and predicting your arrival!
We had another ultrasound this week and you already weigh 5 lbs 14 oz.! Every time I have an ultrasound, they always tell me how good of a baby you are because you move so much! | Happy New Year!
We're getting very close to meeting you! At 38 weeks, you are fully developed and just gaining weight!
Happy Birthday! | You sure surprised us when you came into the world, little one! At 38 weeks and 5 days, I was sent into the hospital to get checked out due to my high blood pressure. Your dad and I thought it was going to be a routine check, so we were planning on being home in a couple hours. After a lot of waiting and collaboration between the doctors, it was decided that since you were well 'cooked' I was going to be induced to eliminate any potential problems. Needless to say, we were both in shock when we realized we weren't going home! | The process began with an iv drip to start my contractions and Baba and Gido came to visit us in the hospital. After about 8 hours and many laps around the third floor, my contractions were not getting strong enough and my blood pressure was increasing, so we got an epidural in an attempt to control my pressure. My water was broken shortly after to try to help along my labour. After a couple more hours you still weren't ready to meet the world, so we tried another intervention called amniotic infusion. The doctor pumped a saline solution back into my uterus because they thought your umbilical cord was wrapped around something and causing you stress, Shortly after, it was decided that I was going to have a c-section because your heart rate was dropping and before we knew it, we were welcoming you into the world! | Your Birth Story
