Opinions may vary on the severity of this social problem, but the fact of the matter is it's all around us. On campus, in families, at work, everywhere. I think this social problem is often overlooked and not seen as a social problem. The "red solo cup" is known nation-wide as a norm of what to drink alcohol out of.

It can be seen as the popular thing to do. Or a norm of college students.
3: People do not understand the potential consequences of binge-drinking, and the amount of control you lose while under the influence. When consuming that much alcohol it is common for people not to remember what they did, or to be passed out unconscious. | Photo- ID:42-28241319 Photographer-145 Date-unknown http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/royalty-free/42-28241319/unconscious-woman-sat-on-a-bathroom-toilet?popup=1

5: I identify myself most with the functionalist perspective. I think that society does have a set of norms on the way people are "supposed" to behave when under the influence. I think that some people do it just to fit into this norm, and they may act a way they normally would not just because they think they are under the influence. In college, a lot of students are under the impression that binge-drinking at parties is a cultural norm, in other words it is just what you are expected to do, I think this is where the social problem lies, when people rely too much on the "norms."

7: In conclusion, I think that binge-drinking is a norm in today's society that is actually a social problem. I feel that people do it for the wrong reasons, and often do not know the effects it may have.
