1: Austin Dabney | Austin Dabney was a slave who fought for Georgia during the American Revolution. He fought in the battle of Kettle Creek and was injured.He Received land and emancipated for his bravery. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

2: Henry Mcneal Turner | He helped organize the African Methodist Church.He helped found the republican party for Georgia.He founded the International Migration Party. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

3: W.E.B DuBois | W.E.B DuBois was a founder of the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People.He was a strong activist for African American civil rights.DuBois was the leader of the Niagra Movement,a group of African-American activist who wanted rights for blacks.

4: Booker T. Washington was a founder of the Tuskegee Institute.He is known for his Atlanta Compromise Speech.He felt blacks should be segregated from whites,and should focus on advancing in agriculture,mechanics,exc. | Black History Month | Booker T.Washington

9: Brown VS Board of Education | The Brown Vs Board of Education case dealt with the integration of black and white schools.Linda brown wasn't able to go to a white school near her home.The N.A.A.C.P and her parents brought this case to court.The ruling was,seperate but equal was unconstitutional and intergration of schools was legal. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

10: Benjamin Mays | Benjamin Mays was known as the father of the modern civil rights movement.He was a father figure and mentor to Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. He was also the President of Morehouse College,and was significant to many orginizations such as United Negro College Fund,Urban League,and Peace Corps Advisory Comitee. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

11: Martin Luther King Jr. | Martin Luther KIng Jr. was a significant leader in the civil rights movement.He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott that ended bus segregation in Montgomery.He gave his famous I Have A Dream Speech at the Lincoln Memorial.He recieved a Nobel piece prize because of his accomplishments. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

13: Andrew Young | Andrew Young was a politician and civil rights activist.He was a supporter of desegregation.He was elected to Georgia congress.He was an ambassador to the United Nations.

14: Hamilton Holmes | Hamilton Holmes was the one of the two black students to go to the University of Georgia.He was later the first african-american to attend Emory School of Medicine.He later became a professor and dean at the school. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------

15: Charlayne Hunter | Charlayne Hunter was on of the first black students to go to the University of Georgia.She became a journalist and news anchor.She has won two emmys and a peabody award for broadcast journalism. | Black History Month

Phillip Randolph was a leader in the civil rights movement.He led the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters,a black labor union.He organized youth marches for integrated schools in Washington,D.C .He convinced Franklin Delano Roosevelt to issue Executive Order 8802 by threatening with a march on washington. | Black History Month | ----------------------------------------------
