4: Athena's Birth | Athena's birth is very interesting and unusual. Her father (Zeus) turned her mother (Metis) into a fly because if he had a son, he would over throw Zeus. Zeus turned her into a fly and swallowed her when she was pregnant. He got massive headaches after and went to Hephaestus. Hephaestus opened Zeus's skull and Athena popped out of his head in full body armor.

10: Why did the Greeks believe in Athena? The Greeks believe in Athena because she was the goddess of wisdom and war. They thought if they believed in her, then they would get great wisdom power. Other beliefs were if they believed in Athena, they would get protection.
11: What is the Origin of the name Athena? The name Athena is a girls name is pronounces ah- THEE-nah. It is a Greek name and Athena means wise. The owl means wise and that is why Athena is usually seen with it.
12: The contest between Athena and Poseidon One day, Athena and her uncle, Poseidon, both claimed the village of Athens. Only one god could rule the town and the townspeople did not want to choose and anger one god. Athena understood them and suggested her and her uncle would give a gift to the town and the townspeople would pick which one they liked better. Poseidon had given them salt water and Athena had given them an olive tree. They tasted the olives and broke a smile. They tasted delicious and the olive trees would provide food, shelter, and oil for cooking. Poseidon thought about it and knew Athena's gift was far better then his and awarded her the city of Athens.
