5: the great migration | during the great migration african americans moved to the north for better employment opportunities because they faced discrimination and violence in the south. | african american

6: prohibition | organized crime | bootleggers | bootleggers were people who sold alcohol illegally | during prohibition all people who owned alcohol had to get rid of it | organized crime was made for people who wanted to drink alcohol illegally

7: Harlem renaissance | in the 1920s and 1930s it was important to African Americans to have art, literature, and music. | this is Langston Hughes. he was a poet who combined the experiences of African American cultural roots | this is a picture of Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington. they were famous jazz composers

8: cultural icons | this is Aaron Copland & George Gershwin. they were composers that wrote uniquely American music | this is a book written by John Steinbeck. he was a novelist who portrayed the strength of poor migrant workers | this is a painting by an artist named Georgia O'Keeffe. she is for urban paintings of the south | this book was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. he was a novelist who wrote about the jazz age of the 1920

9: the great depression | during the great depression, million of people were homeless and bank accounts vanished. on October 24, 1929, the stock markets increased foreign countries could not import goods to America.
