BC: Happy 1st Birthday, Payton!!

FC: Payton Rileigh Minor's First Year Photo Album

Before you were conceived I wanted you. Before you were born I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of a parents love.

We welcome with | love | Payton Rileigh Minor

Born September 30, 2009 at 7:58am Providence Hospital Anchorage, Alaska 8lbs 3oz 21 inches long

The story of your birth... I was two weeks past due and set to be induced on Tuesday, September 29th. Suddenly, on the 28th,while shooting senior portraits I went into labor. Of course Dad was very nervous and wanted to go to the hospital immediately. We still had several appointments coming in that day though and I insisted we finish despite my contractions being 5 minutes apart. Finally, after our last appointment, we headed to Providence Hospital. My contractions were less than 5 minutes apart but after several hours the doctor sent me home because I wasn't dialating, despite the constant contractions. So we headed home for a long, sleepless night full of contractions. We spent the next morning trying to distract ourselves. I was thinking about you and how excited I was to meet you. It was scary and thrilling to think how much our lives were about the change! On the afternoon of the 29th, we went back to the hospital. They admitted us and we were on our way to finally meeting you! Aunt Ashley was working at the NICU that night, Mimi came to the hospital to help and Copa was taking care of the animals and sat by the phone waiting for the call!

You really were not excited about coming into the world. Progress was very slow but everyone kept my spirits up. Late that night I received an epidural (thank goodness for those) and it allowed me and everyone else to get some sleep. A couple of hours later I suddenly felt the urge to push. Copa came just in time, he didn't even need a phone call, he just knew it was time. Aunt Ashley even got off work just in time to be there with us. I pushed for three hours and felt like you were never going to come out. I was later told that your shoulder was caught and so it impeded your progress out. We had a doctor who was only meant to observe with us when all of a sudden you finally started to come into the world. The doctor told me to stop pushing (so she could get my regular doctor back in the room) and I told her no way! The observing doctor and nurse barely had enough time to get gloves on before you came out. Mimi says she was scared because you looked gray and had the cord wrapped around your neck. But she was so relieved to see you turn pink and cry! We all had tears in our eyes! But you were perfect!! The nurses immediately took you over to clean and suction you. You also had a big poo as soon as you came out! Daddy thinks that is so funny! The whole process was amazing and you are our little miracle!

To the world you may be one person.

But to one person you may be the world.

Day 1 & 2 | A new baby is like the beginning of all things-wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.

We spent two nights in the hospital. So many people came to meet you. The first night you slept the entire time. The second night though you had a hard time sleeping. We were at our wits end until a wonderful nurse told your Dad to hold you in his arms while he layed down to sleep. He was so scared that he would roll on you but the nurse assured him you would be fine. Low and behold you slept all night in your Daddy's arms.

Finally going home | We took you home and had to go straight back to work. As we were pulling in the driveway, a client was walking in the door for a shoot. They couldn't believe we were just back from the hospital! Mimi & Copa came through as usual and watched you while we worked. Thankfully we were able to take the next couple days off and enjoy you!

 First bath

First time we had to leave you... Copa did an amazing job! | Copa was terrified coming to watch you when you were only a couple days old. All in all, everything went well...except of course the diaper situation. Copa, didn't realize that they have upgraded diapers by adding velcro. After tearing apart 3 or 4 diapers he started to look for the duct tape and staple gun to get them to stay on.
