22: The day was very memorable. They loaded into a van one Thursday afternoon. The children were quiet and somewhat confused about what was happening. To calm their nerves they were told, “Tubatwala Walungi.” Which means, “We are taking you to a better place.” Smiles began to shine like the sun. The oldest girl, Vanitah said, “This is the day we have all been waiting and praying for.” After the short drive that they said seemed like hours, they arrived. The van puttered to a stop and the kids began to pile out. The gate swung open to reveal their newly prepared home. The children were stunned. The universal language of laughter soon followed their overwhelmed expressions. This moment was almost as special as their first meal. Each child sat quietly waiting for their lunch. They each received rice, chicken, pineapple, and sodas, which were all uncommon luxuries to these children. The room was silent. They ate. They filled their stomachs like it was their first meal or could be their last. The peace of God overcame the room as we all realized that day, our Creator in heaven looked upon these children, and smiled.
