S: France and Greece 2009
FC: France and Greece Summer 2009
For our big vacation in 2009, we took a trip to France and Greece. First, we stopped in Paris before heading to Santorini.
Taking in the sights in Paris on the day we arrived.
Apparently, this is the type of food that Americans and Canadians eat, according to this French grocery store.
This is where we went to dinner our first night out in Paris -- a little Bistro called Le P'tit Troquet that seemed to be run entirely by one woman.
The next day we visited the Musee de L'Orangerie. The museum features Claude Monet's water-lily paintings, known as the Nympheas. The paintings are laid out in two oval rooms, showing the pond at different times of the day.
Quaint views of the streets of Paris -- and the Eiffel Tower
Our hotel room and view into the courtyard.
The second night, we went out for some good hearty Lyonnaise food at a place called Auberge Bressane. I had a fabulous coq au vin, while Oliver had quenelles.
Silly advertisements on the subway, and shadows that make us look like very tall people.
Outside the Ritz hotel. | Sitting at a cafe near our hotel getting coffee and waiting out a rain shower.
The Hemingway bar at The Ritz - our favorite bar in Paris.
Welcome to Greece! A sign at the Athens airport
We spent our first four days in Santorini in the town of Oia, where we stayed at the Ikies Hotel. | Our room had a living room, two bedrooms and a little kitchen -- and an amazing view of the caldera.
Watching a beautiful sunset in Oia.
Breakfast on the patio with incredible views.
Our own personal spa overlooking the caldera.
Heading into town for a walk and dinner.
We had dinner in downtown Oia, watching the sunset and enjoying great food at a restaurant called 1800.
The full moon was so bright that it lit up the entire night.
Enjoying our relaxing terrace and then taking a walk into town.
We went out to dinner and the phyllo, cheese and honey appetizer I ordered was HUGE. It was so good, but I could only eat a fraction of it.
After dinner, we relaxed outside on the futon on our terrace, where we were visited by one of the stray cats that wonders around Oia. It was such a nice night that we fell asleep outside.
Waking up to yet another beautiful day.
The fog rolls in over the water, but Oia still peeks out above the clouds.
We were supposed to leave Oia to head to Fira for the last 5 nights in Greece. But the hotel in Fira double booked our room. So for the first night we were supposed to be at Sun Rocks, they booked us a room at the Kirini Hotel in Oia.
They booked us in one of their nicest suites. | These are views from our patio and of the outdoor bed we had to lounge on and enjoy the amazing view.
We had our own private pool, which actually felt like a sauna. | Enjoying our welcome gift of wine and fruit.
Enjoying the morning at the hotel, with a view of their infinity pool, before checking out to head to Firostefani.
Finally, we made it to our hotel in Firostefani. We checked in to the Sun Rocks hotel, where we had stayed two years ago with Aaron and Kirsten.
Our own private pool area with fantastic views of the Caldera and an outdoor sofa.
Enjoying one of Santorini's amazing sunsets.
We headed out of our hotel ... | ... and took an afternoon walk to explore the next town over, called Imerovigli.
 Taking in more marvelous views.
We had a late lunch at this cafe in Imerovigli, where we ate yummy tomato fritters.
The path we took to head back to Firostefani.
 A golden sunset.
We went out to dinner at a great Greek restaurant called Archipelagos that we'd been to two years ago. Oliver started the meal with a Greek Mythos Beer. We then had delicious eggplant and cheese, tomato fritters, calamari with a ton of garlic and pasta. Yum!
Enjoying our last breakfast in a beautiful setting before leaving the island to head back to France.
We spent our last two days in Paris, at hotel DuO in the Marais section of the city. | We then ventured out to get ice cream at Oliver's favorite ice cream spot in Paris - Berthillon.
Taking in some last views in Paris before heading home.
