S: Study Abroad Florence, Italy Spring 2011
BC: “You may have the universe if I may have Italy” - Giuseppe Verdi
FC: A Semester Abroad in Florence, Italy | Taryn Silber Spring 2011
This book contains some of my favorite photos from my study abroad adventure my spring semester junior year at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. I lived in Villa Corsi Salviati in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy with 42 other Michigan and Wisconsin students, our professors, Helen, the villa manager, Bruno, our chef, and Bruno, our 88 year-old gardener.
Tuscan food. | Villa cooking class, three meals a day by our gourmet chef, Bruno, dinners out with villa friends, Sesto pub Saturday's, eagerly anticipating Sunday dinner and Helen's tiramisu!
 Friday Morning Cooking Class!
Active Tuscan Adventures | biking, hiking, running!
We woke up before dawn to climb the hill to the Sacred Heart church and watched the sunrise over Paris. And then ate croissants right out of the oven from a nearby bakery. Wonderful. | Paris!
Italian Food!! Easily one of the best aspects of Italy - YUM!
Brussels and Bruges: We spent our time in Brussels at the bars with Delirium beer! The word "cute" basically defined Bruges, with its chocolate shops, tea cafes and pubs on every corner! Belgium waffles were amazing!
ROMA: | Our first overnight Villa trip was so fun! We visited all the sites during the day, then had four hour outdoor dinners with free wine!
 Spring Break: Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla!
A week living out of a backpack. Barcelona was unbelievable: the beach, the Gaudí architecture, and obviously the ridiculous nightlife. We relaxed a bit in Granada and walked through the stunning La Alhambra. Sevilla was beautiful with its river, cathedral, and "churros con chocolate!" I met up with great college and high school friends which made the experience even better!
Venezia. The city was just an unreal as it looks. We lost ourselves walking down the little alleys, went on a gondola ride, and found the original Jewish Ghetto. At night, we saw the church of San Marco completely empty, with incredible gold ceilings.
Mom and Dad come to visit! We rented a car and drove throughout Tuscany and Umbria, staying in a farmhouse near Cortona. I ate the best meal of my life of gnocchi in Montepulciano. Mom and I took a Umbrian cooking class and prepared a wonderful meal! I will need to buy a retirement home in Tuscany.
 Fun in Florence!
Warm weather, beaches, temples, and markets! Sicily was a wonderful and relaxing weekend! Heather and I went to Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, Palermo beach, and Cefalu.
Cinque Terre: A hike through five towns on Italy's western coast.
 Sesto Fiorentino
