4: All About Castles | Castles are buildings that protect the lords during war. They are well fortified with high walls that makes it difficult for attackers to get in. The castles was a base for soldiers that provided them with shelter, weapons, and food. | 1. fortified- to protect against attack ; or provide with defensive military work. 2. base- a more or less protected area or place for a large military force.

5: Why Were Castles Built? | Castles were built for several different reasons. One reason was to protect the lords and soldiers during the wars. Another reason was to be a base for the soldiers to provide shelter and other needs to live.

6: Timeline | 1100- about 1500- Castles began to be built in Europe 1140- many-sided castles began to be built. 1270- concentric castles began to build

7: 1350- the castles began to start using cannons 1500- most castles no longer had fortified homes

8: What Life was Like Inside a Castle. | Castles were more than just military buildings. Many castles were homes for lords and their families. Usually the lord tried to make the castle just like home and make it as comfortable as possible. Numerous people lived in the castle, and most were workers/servants for the lords. A castle's garrison consists of only a few soldiers and knights that could be reached when necessary. | Garrison- A place where such troops are stationed or any military post; usually a permanent one.

9: Here are Some Defense Tools used to Protect Castles. | There were many different tools and weapons that were used to protect castles. Some weapons and tools that were used was: * Crossbow * Cannons * Hammers * Ballista * Cataput All of these weapons and tools were very popular during the Mideval Times! | Barbicans- an outwork of a fortified place, as a castle. | Cataput | Ballista

10: Types of Castles | The earlies castle was a Motte and Bailey Castle. This was a unique and extrodinary type of castle. A beautiful castle Krak Des Chevaliers that is located in Syria. It is the greatest Crusader castle. The Concentrix Castle was also very popular in the Middle Ages.Unlike most castles that had a square keep this one had a central keep.

11: Dear Diary | Dear Diary, I am very excited because I am going to the Krak Des Chevalier castle today! I have never been to a castle before and I know it is going to be absolutely amazing. I bet it's going to be gorgeous! I can't wait and I can't wait to tell you all about it when I get home. Sincerely, Mary
