FC: Jeff, Carolyn and Luke
We are Carolyn, Jeff and Luke. Carolyn is originally from England and Jeff grew up in Massachusetts. We are both 40 years old and have been married for 17 years. We had the good fortune to adopt Luke 2 years ago. Luke is a sweet and loving bundle of energy. We have no doubt that he will make the best big brother. It was always our dream to have two children, since we both grew up with siblings that we remain close with. | When we adopted Luke we spent time with his birth mother and witnessed first-hand how difficult it is to place a child for adoption. In the time we spent together we developed a strong bond and trust in one another. We keep in touch by sending letters and photographs, according to his birth mother's wishes. We also welcome the idea of a more open adoption but feel it is up to the birth family to determine the level of contact that they are comfortable with. We both believe that the birth family plays a vital role in the life of an adopted child.
About Jeff by Carolyn I met Jeff in 1990, when I was a young exchange student at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, so I have been very fortunate to have him by my side for most of my adult life. He is warm and out-going, and has a great sense of humor - our home is always full of laughter. Jeff is also very responsible, hard-working and caring. At work Jeff is in a position with a lot of responsibility but he handles it well and always finds time for his family. Jeff is a natural as a father and has an incredible bond with Luke. I am proud of our family and feel very blessed to have Jeff as my husband.
About Jeff by Jeff The last 2 years with Luke have been so much fun. I have lots of hobbies and interests and I'm happy Luke likes them too. I really enjoy music, both listening and playing guitar. Luke really enjoys dancing while I play or playing along with his drums. I also like cooking and judging by Luke's appetite I make a great grilled cheese and pizza. I actually think he likes my cooking better than Carolyn's. | I like to stay active and do a lot of running and cycling, it helps me stay fit so I can keep up with Luke. I love spending time with family and often go on long bike rides with my step-father, Larry. I spent a lot of time making things as a kid with my grandfather and step father and look forward to doing it with our children. One project I am proud of is the go-kart I made for my nephew and I look forward to building the next one. I also like working on the house and have built a new kitchen and bathroom. I hope to pass on all that I have learned from my family to my children.

About Carolyn by Jeff When Carolyn and I first met we bonded instantly. That first year at college we developed such a strong friendship and spent many late nights talking, listening to music, laughing and having lots of fun. It is the strongest friendship I have had in my life. All of Carolyn’s friends feel the same way. She is the type of person who will always help a friend in need and not expect or want anything in return. Carolyn’s friends always joke and tell me how lucky I am to have her, and it's true. Apart from being my best friend she is also the funniest, strongest, most caring and adventurous person I know. She is always planning for the next family get-together, trips away, or nights out bowling (even though I always win!). I believe Carolyn and I truly are soul mates. I admire all of her qualities. She values spending time with family and friends more than anything else in life and she is not driven by material things. Carolyn fills my life with love and happiness and does so with all family members. She is a loving, nurturing, and devoted mother.
About Carolyn by Carolyn For the past 2 years I have been a stay-at-home mom, although I still work occasionally at a local library. I have a great support system of friends who also have small children, so we get together every week. In my spare time I love to read, listen to music and watch movies. I also do a lot of sewing and knitting. I enjoy spending time outdoors and like to stay active. My parents are my role models in life. They gave my sister and me an incredible childhood of unconditional love and support. We have some wonderful memories of family vacations spent camping in Europe. We visited France, Italy and Spain amongst many other countries; each summer we would embark on a new adventure. On a shoestring budget they were able to show us a little piece of the world. We hope to take our own children on lots of adventures too! | Luke with one of my creations!

About Luke Luke is a very happy 2 year old. He spends much of his time dancing, running and jumping. He loves to laugh and already has a great sense of humor. He has pretty broad musical tastes for a 2 year old but at the moment his favorites are the Black Eyed Peas and all disco music! He has lots of friends in the neighborhood and we have a big fenced in yard so it's great for playing. We also have a playground and baseball field just a few minutes away, not to mention some great New England beaches. In many ways Luke is a typical boy who loves trucks, trains and dinosaurs, but he also has a very gentle disposition and is very caring. We are proud of Luke's African-American heritage and would love to adopt a child with a similar background.

Carolyn's parents, sister and 2 nephews live in England. We see them as often as possible. Luke has already made the trip to England to meet his cousins, and has the cutest passport photo ever! Carolyn's parents recently retired so they are able to visit at least twice a year. Luke loves spending time with his grandparents. Jeff's parents, brother and 2 nieces live close-by in Massachusetts. Jeff also has a sister and a niece who live in Manhattan, we love going to visit. We have a great relationship with Jeff's extended family and enjoy lots of fun get-together's. Our families have both been extremely supportive of our adoption plans. To say that our families love Luke would be an understatement, he is really cherished. Everyone is anxious for us to bring another child into our lives and theirs. It has been an enriching journey for all of us and it has been interesting to see family members old and young thinking about the meaning of family and race. | Luke with his cousin on a trip to England
We are fortunate to live in a diverse neighborhood. We also have supportive family, friends and neighbors. We have close friends who also have adoptive and multiracial families. These relationships are a real blessing and will no doubt be important to our children. We are already planning for the future by educating ourselves and thinking about the types of situations our children will encounter. We are committed to raising our children in a multi-cultural environment with positive role models. | Luke with his friend Anna, who was adopted by our good friends of over 20 years
