S: Our First Year
FC: Our First Year
It all started with a two-headed snowman (according toTamara), or a body check (according to Kyle, but there is no evidence to prove this!) We had been playing floor hockey together for a few months which resulted in a Facebook friendship because that was how info was disseminated for the team. In January Tamara posted a picture of a two-headed snowman she built with labmates beneath the rad-lab sign. Kyle took the opportunity to start a conversation about it and offer Tamara a tour of the building. | While still working at Notre Dame, Kyle used the available resources to make a heart out of titanium, Tamara's favorite metal.
We spent our first Valentine's Day Weekend together and loved every action packed minute of it! We went to St. Joe Friday night to watch a friend and their band, Kyle watched Tamara play ice hockey, and we went skiing on Valentine's Day, which was Tamara's first time!
We enjoyed the skiing part so much that we did it again the next weekend!
We spent the next few weeks getting to know each other doing various things around the area. We went to a friend's going away party, made smores in the microwave, watched Canada beat the US at hockey, and saw the Tossers play at Legends while Kyle sported a mowhawk! | Then we drove up north to Muskegon and luged together. On the way back we tasted some wine and stopped in St. Joe for Silver Beach Pizza and a walk on the beach.
In March we celebrated St. Patrick's Day, Tamara went through a carwash for the first time, and we spent an evening with friends for Kyle's going away party. | In April Tamara drove up to Canada to meet Kyle's parents and spend Easter with Kyle. We went to The Beer Store, the hockey, oops I mean sports store, spent a day in St. Jacobs, and had a Easter egg hunt which Tamara got really into. When Tamara left Kyle was sad, but then happy to realize we'd see each other again soon!
While in Canada, we took the opportunity to have a romantic night alone at Niagara Falls. On the way there we visited wineries and bought some wine and champagne to drink on the river. In Niagara we checked out Ripley's Believe It or Not, Lego Land, and Hard Rock Café. That night we stayed in a super shmancy hotel and even got a room upgrade to a "Falls View"! The next day we had lunch in Niagara on the Lake and headed back to Kyle's parents for Easter dinner.
We discovered that Tamara packs far more than Kyle and that Kyle is several Legos taller than Tamara.
Kyle graduated in May and the night before we accidentally found a bunny, Alfred! We had a gradu-birthday party for Kyle to celebrate. Festivities included a piñata, a keg of Leinenkugel, suck and blow Jello shots, and a Ritters' ice cream cake, oh ya and a VERY drunk Kyle!
After Kyle's graduation he had to go back to Canada, but he had driven down with his parents, | This gave us to the chance to explore Chicago together! | so he took a bus back from Chicago.
During the summer Tamara took her written candidacy exam. It took a while to hear back from all of the professors. Kyle kept checking her email for the last response. When it came in, we celebrated with a bottle of Free Run Balaton Cherry wine and Dove chocolate, two of Tamara's favorite treats.
Following Tamara's Written Exams, we took a road trip together to Albuquerque.... Four days in a car together and we're still in love! On the road we saw a giant cross and a sink the shape of Texas!
We spent the week hiking, fishing, relaxing in hot springs, and eating "Thanksgiving Dinner" for Tamara's birthday. We also went to the top of the Crest and ending up driving home a couple whose car wouldn't start because the radio towers jammed the security system!
Late in the summer we went ca-brewing and roasted the green chile from Tamara's garden... and drank margaritas!
In the fall we tailgated a bit and Tamara experienced her first Notre Dame football game.
Since we never really did the traditional "first date", we finally had one. We went kayaking in the St. Joe River, had ice cream, played mini golf, and tried the batting cages. Pretty much a classic first date.
Tamara's first visit to Knoxville meant Beer Festivaling it up!
In the fall we went horseback riding. | People say, "You guys do a lot of things 'outdoors'!"
Thanksgiving in Knoxville..... Yummm Kyle and I decorated a tree!
