FC: Our Trip to San Francisco, California April 2011
Jeff planned this surprise to celebrate my 40th birthday. This is the poem he wrote telling me about the trip. We had an amazing time and I cannot wait to go back!
We stayed in the Presidio District of San Francisco in a Bed and Breakfast called the "Monte Cristo". The room was filled with antiques and the food was good. We even had cable!
On our first afternoon we rode the bus to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. We had a cup of tea in an outdoor cafe overlooking a lovely Japanese garden. We had dinner at Cioppino's. Delicious fish stew!
On our first full day, we started out at the Ferry Building Farmers Market where we ate a delicious lunch of steamed mussels and empanadas. We also enjoyed a glass of wine and some Blue Bottle Coffee.
We walked along the San Francisco Bay towards Fisherman's Warf. Along the way we saw Alcatraz and the famous California sea lions sunning themselves.
We spent some time shopping in Ghiradelli Square and had dinner at a restaurant called Blue Mermaid. We also took a ride on a street car, which was very exciting!
On Monday we spent the morning in the shopping district. After lunch we walked to Coit Tower, which was built in 1933 to honor the city's firefighters. The tower is 210 feet tall. There were 26 beautiful murals painted on the walls depicting life in America at that time. We waited in a very long line to take an elevator to the top. We were treated to a breathtaking view of the city and then waited in another line to take the elevator down!
Random pictures taken on our way back from Coit Tower: | China Town | Trattoria Pinocchio for delicious Italian food and a cool cafe with terrible espresso! | Posing in front of a very large bookstore with a view of the Transamerica Pyramid.
Even though we were many miles from home, we were constantly thinking of the children. They were at home having a lot of fun with the grandparents!
On Tuesday we rented a car and drove up the coast to Muir Woods to see the redwood trees. It was a very cool and foggy day! During our hike we saw and heard a barred owl.
We | We enjoyed a picnic lunch at Muir Beach and then traveled up the coast to Pointe Reyes. | Jeff was brave enough to dip his toe in the Pacific Ocean. The view was gorgeous!
The landscape around Point Reyes was beautiful. To get to the beach we traveled through several cattle ranches.
We ended our day in the Napa Valley. The landscapes were absolutely beautiful!
We ate dinner at Mustards Grill. We were able to finally get a table without a reservation, and it was well worth the wait! The wine and the food were delicious!
On our last day we traveled back to Golden Gate Park to the Conservatory of flowers. We also wandered through the shops along Haight Street. We ate our last meal at Gamine French Bistro in Cow Hallow. President Obama was in town and it took hours to find a bus to take us to the restaurant, but it was worth it!
The president's car and motorcade passed right by our bed and breakfast! | More memorable photos!
More pictures from our day at the ocean.
More sights from around the city.
Thank you for a wonderful trip!
