S: Colorado, Utah, New Mexico July 1-21, 2011

FC: Colorado, Utah & New Mexico July 1-21, 2011

1: July 1- Paul and Carol fly to Denver. We drive to Boulder and tour Celestial Seasonings Tea Co. After stopping by the Dushanbe Teahouse, we head to Pearl Street for dinner. After dinner, we drive the Flagstaff Scenic Highway to watch the sunset on the Flatirons.

2: Saturday morning we are up early and off to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. We stop at many overlooks, hike a variety of trails, find geo-caches, see wildlife and snow.

4: Sunday was another beautiful day in RMNP. We started in Central City, drove the Peak to Peak Byway, had lunch in Estes Park, hiked at Brainard Lake, at Sprague Lake, to Alberta Falls and in the Tundra Communities. We saw big horn sheep and moose!

6: Mount Evans is the highest paved road in North America.

7: Early morning is the perfect time to visit.

8: Wednesday we spent the day in Colorado Springs. We are walking the trail at the Garden of the Gods before 8:30am. We toured the Fine Arts Center and the Air Force Academy. I visit a great quilt shop and we top it off with Mexican for dinner!

9: We drove Shelf Road ( dirt and rugged) from Canon City to Cripple Creek. Toured Florissant Fossil Beds, geo-cached and then back to Pueblo for dinner downtown and walked the riverwalk.

10: Black Canyon of the Gunnison

11: Arches National Park | Colorado National Monument

12: Mesa Arch at sunrise. | Upheaval Dome | Dead Horse Point

13: Hovenweep | Visited Canyonlands- Island in the Sky and Needles sections. We saw grainaries, pictographs, pot holes with larvae and rock formations. Later went to Hovenweep.

15: Dinner with Scotty Weits - James cousin who works at the RR. | Four nights in Durango. Mesa Verde on Monday, Tuesday Ute Museum - Excellent! Wednesday - Train from Durango to Silverton - even a DDDiner in Silverton! Dinner with Scotty-James' cousin. We loved Durango!

16: Great Sand Dunes National Monument

17: Capulin Volcano | Taos Pueblo | San Francisco de Asis | We hiked the rim of Capulin. Toured Taos - visited Ranchos de Taos, saw a "relic" painting and ate at the SF de Asis cafe.

18: David Wiseman | Los Alamos - great museum! Santa Fe - Georgia O'Keeffe, First Pres., State Capitol, Chimayo healing "relic". International Folk Art Museum.

19: We left Santa Fe and drove Turquoise Tr to ABQ. Old Town, Route 66, Natural History Museum, relax at the pool, El Morro, Malpais, Grants for lunch with Margo and Don.
