S: Donna's 60th Birthday

FC: Happy Birthday to my Baby Sister

I feel very fortunate that I've been able to go through life with three of my best friends, my sisters. And now the youngest one is becoming a senior citizen, a fact harder for me to comprehend than when I reached that age. The years between the day of your birth and the present are filled with wonderful memories of our years together. I look forward to many more as we travel through this next chapter.

I have often wished I could remember more from the past. But, July 21, 1951, is a date that is vivid in my memory. | Linda and Carolyn were visiting relatives the day you were born. That left only Daddy and me to spread the news of your birth. After he unsuccessfully tried to sneak me into the hospital to see you, we made the rounds of all the aunts and uncles and friends. It was such fun relaying the news and the only thing that confused me was why everyone we met asked me if I was jealous. I didn't feel anything but joy at becoming a big sister.

Mother, Daddy, Mommie and Papa were all so thrilled to have a baby around again. | Sisters with their babies.

But even they couldn't have been more thrilled than the sisters were. | You had built in baby sitters and one of us was always taking you somewhere. | You even went on dates with us! | Linda was 14 when you were born,Carolyn was 12, and I was almost 9.

Everyone had to be photographed beside Memorial Hospital. | Uncle Lenny called you Little Miss Egypt. | Daddy's Little Girl.

But alas and alack, along came a baby brother. You didn't understand why he had invaded your space. | Davy was pretty useless as far as you were concerned and you saw no good reason for him coming to mess up your life. After all...

...you were a girl with attitude... | ...who had things to do... | ...with friends. And the only thing you had in common with your brother... | ...was the ability to make your dog laugh!

Well, it wasn't too long before another brother came.. This one wasn't so bad, however. At least Scotty could carry your lunch box. And you could get on with growing up and learning to be a Lennon.

In the meantime, you were swinging into the teen years. Your sisters had all married and moved away. Some of my happiest times were when you visited me inPhiladelphia, Washington, and New Orleans. Remember that crazy ride down to NO in the Mustang, Dippity Doo, quiz shows, swimming lessons, and boys, boys, boys? It was about this time that David started to be an ally and you found out he wasn't so worthless!

Of course, you were growing and changing all the time-trying out new hairstyles and keeping up with the latest fashion trends.

Oh, yes! There were hair styles and fashions! | And Boys! | AndRicky Eckman.

900 West 23rd Street | But soon you were in love for real. | February 5, 1972 | Bare Feet | Ted Van Name

You started your family right away. Well, sort of. Pumpkin was to be one of your many feline children over the years. You also began years of travel for Ted''s work-Newark, Dover, West Virginia, Minnesota, Texas. Photos above were in West Virginia and Minnesota. West Virginia reminds me of your Irish Setter, butter, and the porcelain sink I broke.

After 9 years of marriage, your dream of motherhood came true. We were all thrilled when Carly Bryn came into the family on March 13, 1981.

Parenthood brought us all closer. We 've shared in countless joys, tribulations, trials. and successes over the years. I guess we could have done it all without mutual support. But it wouldn't have been nearly as easy-or as much fun. | Carolyn was pregnant with Craig. | Ocean Grove

We have been so fortunate to be able to share so many wonderful moments. Family gatherings, births, graduations, weddings, vacations, working on our "spaces" or just doing lunch. The next few pages are reminders of some of those special times we've enjoyed over the years.

Eleuthera, New Orleans, | We agreed to do this because we didn't know anyone there. | and ?

August 8-18, 1998 | A bus took us to New York where we boarded the ship.

Some of our beach excursions were better than others. The Stone Harbor 70's house comes to mind!

But all involved beach time, cards, and, of course, food.

But we've never needed much of an excuse for a gathering.

We took our children to New York before Mel'anie's wedding. Below, sister/cousin trip to New York.

Our most recent big event, Carly and Sean's Wedding | June 3, 2011

And so, my dear sister, I present this book to you on this special occasion and tell you that you are still looking as cute and saucy as you did years ago when you had a tree growing out of your head!

Happy Birthday! I look forward to many more adventures together. | Love, Faye
