On the next page I included a couple of pages from Mom's Bible. Romans 8:28 and Ephesians 2:8-9 were some of her favorite verses and used for her funeral service. A picture of mom's school paper and the debate team of which she was so proud. A letter from Butte in 1930.

12: Mom and Dad came to Square Butte in 1929 to work for McCartneys and teach their son the ranching business. They got $30 a month for both of them. After the depression hit, the McCartneys could not pay them their back wages, so they took land in lieu of wages. They milked cows, ran sheep and trapped in order to make a living. Junior was born April 4, 1928 in Livingston, and Dede was born October 14, 1929 in Great Falla They hauled their water from the spring we now use with a horse (see mosquito net) and buggy. The sorrel horse Dad is riding to the right was his favorite----named Fox. He cried when he got in a ditch and died. I was born June 8, 1947 and lived in the 'old house for 2 years. My bottle would freeze in my crib at night.

13: My folks were pretty excited to have me show up----or so I was always told!! I was always Dad's 'cowboy' and didn't like to do much in the house. I had a dog named Billie that guarded me from the snakes, but Junior shot her cause she got in the way hunting. I wanted to be just like my big brother, so I was always going around with my shirt undone or my chest puffed out--not too girlish!! Junior brought me the hula outfit from being in the service in Hawaii, so Mom had pictures taken. Upper left is Mom and Dad at St. Peter's Mission. The palomino is Golden Boy and I thought he was A-Okay.
