S: Italy Trip 2011

FC: Debbie's magical 50th birthday trip to Italy

My flight was 6 hours late, so I missed the first day in Rome. However, the second day I took a bus tour of Rome and explored the neighborhoods. It was great!!!

I stopped at the colisuem and above the clouds were colored clouds, kind of like a rainbow, but it hadn't raied, it was amazing! I have never seen anything like that.

When I got back to my hotel, there was a couple with there 10 year old son on the rooftop patio having wine. We chatted and they shared their wine. They invited me to dinner with them, but I was too tired. | At the coliseum. There were couples as next door there is a church that if you get married there you have good luck.

On Saturday, Jamie finally arrived after missing her flight from SFO. We took the train from Rome to Naples, then went and had pizza. We then met the group and drove to Positano.

The views above are from the patio at our wonderful Hotel California. Below is Nadine and Jamie and I going to dinner the first night.

We took a wonderful boat ride to Capri, we swam in the med.

Capri I ended up being the tour guide since I had been there before. I had everyone get bus tickets and finacular tickets and we went to Ana Capri. | We went to Ana Capri and ate lunch at same place Mom and I had eaten at 8 years before. It was the best food I had in Italy!! After lunch Nadien and Jamie and I went up to top on chair lift and had Prosecco at top! Was amazing!!

Views from top of Capri, was really clear and beautiful. | From Chair lift... | from top of Capri | After Capri we had a shuttle pick us up to take us up to a a resturant in the village above Positano. We h ad a great dinner, but way too much food.

Amazing Bruschetta! | That night was the one time a year where there is this festival to Mary. They shut down the one street coming into town and lined it with cancles. Then the villagers did a canclight procession down and back up to the church. | This was an alter with roses in front of an apartment on the walkway near our reasturant going to the church.

The procession walking up to the church. The flowers of an angel in front of the church and a view of the church. It was magical!!

Our first cooking class we made rpasta dough and rolled it out then filled them to make avolli's, chichen catachatore and ugly but good cookies, was tons of FUN!!

Our first luch together that we made. the sause for the ravolli's and the finished product below. Jamie at the reasturant

Me outside the reasturant where we had our cooking class. Jamie and Tom on the patio at our hotel. We spent a lot of time on the patio, it had amazing views and was where the wireless worked so I would send emails from there.

More cooking class photos... Making pasta dough, the fresh mozarella cheese we stuffed them with.

The chicken catcciatore and great bread!

Spent the day in Pompai, it was amazing. It was hot, but not too bad.

Did the Rick Steeves audio tour, but should have taken a tour. We went to the museum in Naples and saw the items from Pompai.

Some of the things we made... | Pizza with potatos and cheese and pizza with gorgonzola and radicho, really good... The other prizzas everyone made what they wanted then we shared. | Lemon tiramisu, homemade mozerella on a lemon leaf and lemon risotto. It was all so fresh and amazing!!

We would cook for about 3 to 3 1/2 hours then we would eat. it was never large portions, but still plenty of food. Of course, there was wine, so we would all go back and take a nap either at the hotel or on the beach!

The village of Pontepitsou, the reasturant is where we had dinner and saw the procession. The two bottom photos are the view from where we had the cooking class.

The food walk tour was fun, we stopped at the bakery and learned about the Amalfi specials. Then we went to the deli for wine and sausage, and olive oil tasting. That is where I did my splurge of all the pasta, cheese, salami, wine and oil shopping. I spent over $150.00 plus shipping, but have LOTS of pasta!!

We went to Amalfi and Ravello. The church in Amalfi was amazing. Look at the photo above with the water coming out of the boobs. We had the best lunch in Amalfi, was so much fun!!

At Villa Rufolo in Ravello. They were setting up for a month of concerts, would love to go back for that!

 The views of Ravello...

The last night in Positano went to dinner with Tom and Lynn and I had the Amalfi lemon boob dessert. Lynn's chocolate cake was better!!! | The people in our cooking class were so much fun, but we especailly loved Tom and Lynn and Nadiene. Unfortunatly | The people in our cooking class were so much fun, but we especially loved Tom and Lynn and Nadiene. We all had a blast together!!!

We spent 5 hours in Naples, was very scarry... We went to the Archaeological Museum whidh was great. Had lots of Pompai artificats. We walked down and had lunch. We hated Naples, but were glad we went. Below is Spanish Steps and us having dinner.

I spent 5 days in Rome. Above my really small bathrooms, you could barly enter the shower. The two other photos is Plaza Narvona, my favorite place in Rome.

Having pasta for lunch and the beautiful streets of Rome and Campo de" Fiori where I went to the farmers market which was so much fun!!!

I went to the Vatican and spent a long day walking around that area. The Vatican Museum was amazing, but they ran us through really, really fast. I also toured the coliseum and the forum. Tuesday morning I woke up and it was a thunderstorm and really raining, so after that it was really hot and humid.

One of my favorite places in Rome was the Galleria Borghese. It was fantastic!! I took a few photos before I knew I wasn't supposed too. It was almost like the Vatican Museum, but you could take your time. There were Berneni marble sculptures where you could see the imprint of a hand on flesh- Amazing!

I was getting lonley towards the end, but the last night I met my friend Julie Ruth who I hadn't seen in 3 years since she moved from Chesapeake. We had a great dinner near Campo de" Fiori then walked through Plaza Narvona and up to the Trevi Fountain. Above is me thowing a coin into the Trevi in the hopes I return to Rome!!!
