FC: An Adventure in Asia Oct 2008-June 2009

In October 2008, five months after our wedding, we moved to Shanghai for my job. Although our time there was short-lived we managed to make the most of it. This book is a memory of our brief, but exciting, nine month stint in Shanghai. It may have been fleeting but we'll have memories to last a lifetime. ~October 2008 - June 2009~
We found an apartment to live in within a week. Located in LuJiaZui, Pudong, and walking distance from my office. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 3 balconies and a big purple couch! | Yanlord Gardens
 Yu Yuan
We weren't ever lonely or bored while in Shanghai. Stella and Adrienne were in the area to hang out with and we constantly had a stream of people visiting! We also found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves...including sculpting watermelons.
The Tetlows were the first to come visit us after my mom. They came just a week before the Los! | We had a great time just hanging out and eating! | 03.2009
04.2009 Next to visit were the Los, Hwangyuens, my mom and Frank. From the moment they touched down it was go go go! | With so many people we hired a driver for the whole week. Patrick loved it - driver driver driver!
What could be more fun than weekend trip to Seoul? Cherry blossoms, great food, and shopping until 4am! | 04.2009
04.2009 Japan | Kiyomizudera Temple | Garden near Hajime Castle
We took a long weekend to go to Osaka, Japan. We stayed in Doutonbori, which is a famous area of Osaka known for its small alleys full of food, shops and clubs. We had the most delicious ramen there - I wish we had gone back for seconds! From Osaka we took the train to Hajime Castle and Kyoto, where we rented bikes and rode around the city. It was rainy but still a wonderful weekend.
Temple of Heaven Beijing We went to Beijing to visit Albert, who was in town for a few weeks taking a law class. We explored the city, went to the Great Wall and almost ate some scorpions. | 05.2009
Ba Da Ling is a remote and completely unrestored section of the Great Wall. We took a very shifty looking cable car most of the way and then had to walk the rest to the top. The steps were uneven, run down and hard to navigate. However, if I had known how tiring Huang Shan was going to be this would have seemed liked a piece of cake!
How far can you run in 10 seconds? Bird's Nest, Beijing
Albert and Sheep chickened out at the last second and decided to pass on the scorpions!
05.2009 We went to Taiwan to visit Ann and family. Diana was also in town so we had a great time just hanging out and playing with the kiddos. | Best thing about living in Shanghai? Being able to travel all over Asia for weekend trips. Not to mention, Sheep also had to leave every 3 months because of his visa!
Huang Shan "Yellow Mountain" We went to Huang Shan with Albert, Foo and Katie and had quite the adventure. There was torrential rain the night we traveled from Shanghai to Anhui, the hostel we stayed in was truly not fit for living, and it was the one of the steepest, scariest, exhausting hikes of my life. It was worth every minute.
Steep, claustrophobic staircases... | but amazing and breathtaking views! | 06.2009
