Skalitude - Methow Valley February 2011
 Marshmallow Art
Both girls tried skiing, at Skalitude and with Patrick on the tow rope at a nearby ski area. All the kids loved the sledding hill that was right outside our cabin.
Abram's 4th Birthday Abram celebrated with cupcakes at preschool, had a polka-dot cake on his actual birthday, and a party a few days later with cousins ... the theme was GREEN!
Guatemala - March 2011 Joel went with the same Hands of Love group that he went with 2 years ago. This time they went to a town they had never been to before, Raxruha in the Alta Verapaz region. It was an extra special trip because Joel was able to go with his dad. Danny and Joel had a great experience helping the people of Raxruha, while also getting to know the other volunteers and getting to explore Guatemala.
Fun in April Included a trip to the Spring Fair where we enjoyed the animals, face-painting, and cotton candy. Later in the month we went to the Moisture Festival in Seattle, a fun-filled variety show with talented magicians, trapeze artists and more.
Spring Break in Portland The kids lasted all day at OMSI ... from opening until late afternoon, with only a 5 minute break to share a granola bar. The other highlights were the hotel pool and riding on the MAX light rail train.
Opening Day of Fishing | Lake Wilderness
Easter We hosted the Easter party & egg hunt for Ivah's preschool class. Easter day we spent with the whole family at Danny & Linda's.
 Stina's 6th Birthday | Campout Party
above: a lava tube we found along the side of the freeway right: the kids loved exploring the Thurston Lava Tube below: lots of time was spent playing in the ocean waves - we even saw a giant sea turtle in the shallow water | Above: all the signs before we headed down the steep trail to the black sand beach. Below: the view down to the black sand beach. The kids did amazing on this steep, rocky trail.
 HAWAII - May 2011
We spent one whole day on the Hilo side of the Big Island, visiting beautiful waterfalls and Volcano National Park.
The kids all were successful snorkelers. | Below: we drink the milk from a fresh coconut. Stina was the biggest fan and finished most of it. | We learned a lot and everyone was able to hold a seahorse at the Ocean Rider seahorse farm. | Up close with a seahorse | Fun in the pool | It was great to spend time with the Rudes of Hawaii. | Below: Abe heads out snorkeling with Uncle Aaron
10th Anniversary Trip to Leavenworth | It was a wonderful trip, two nights and three days of relaxation and adventure. We stayed at the Run of the River Inn, a fabulous place where they had bikes we could borrow and wonderful breakfasts. We enjoyed a beautiful hike to Eightmile Lake our first day. The second day we biked up the Icicle Canyon where we had a picnic lunch. Another time we biked into town to have a beer at the Icicle Brewery and dinner at South, a surprisingly great Latin restaurant. One night we had a special, multi-course dinner at the Mountain Home Lodge. On our last day, we joined Bill Lepin (a patient of Joel's) on a fun and wild river rafting trip down the Wenatchee.
Abram's Gymnastics Performance Abram loved his gymnastics class. Cousin Louisa was in his class, which made it extra fun. And though Abe was a great gymnast, he did not want to perform in front of the parents. There were tears shed and a lot of time on the sidelines, but eventually, with some coaxing, Abe got out there. He did a fabulous job. We were so proud of him for going beyond his comfort level!
 Camping at Lake Chelan
Kate's Surprise 30th Party | Everyone dressed as a favorite TV, movie or music star from the 80s.
We ended up at Grayland the weekend of their annual Kite Festival. Highlights were flying our own kites, collecting shells, playing in the ocean, our great primitive campsites, and having breakfast on the beach. | Grayland Beach
 Camping at the River
 The Warrior Dash
Greenwater Lakes Backpacking Trip We were so proud of the kids. They each carried their own clothes, snacks, water and sleeping bag the entire 4 mile round trip journey. We camped near a little river with a rocky beach which provided hours of entertainment.
 CabinFest 2011
More Summer Meeting Kyler Kearns, fun at the Waterpark & Joel starts Paragliding,
Girls' Wonderland Hike It was an adventure-filled weekend. Our first day started with breathtaking views of Rainier, but half-way through we ended up off the main trail (though we didn't know it) and fortunately ran into a woman named Jody (below right) who helped us find our way back to the main trail. Then we encountered a bear, just as we were on a very steep, snow-covered path. After that first day, our only big problem was Heather's burned legs, which we "basted" with water to relieve her pain (above).
Guys' Wonderland Hike The guys had an incredible hike. Patrick hiked in ice to Summerland. The scenery and friends were amazing. The weather was perfect. Ranger Gavin likes Scotch and Vance and Mike completed the entire loop. Good friends, good hikes, good weather are a recipe for great times.
Stina's Theater Camp Stina loved participating in a week long camp at MVPC and then singing in the three productions of "Let's Rock." She had many fans (upper right) that came to watch her.
Hanging with Kate We celebrated with Kate after her test at some quality Enumclaw establishments. Kate & Julie take Dad out to Luther's Table for a belated Father's Day celebration. Kate & Jul's date : Red Robin + flask + The Bachelorette movie + Bowling = cheesy high school date night fun!
First Days of School Everyone started school on a different day this year. Abram began 4's preschool with Mrs. Kami at Shadow Lake. Ivah's big excitement was getting to ride the bus to kindergarten. A few days before Stina started full-day 1st grade, we had her hair cut and she had enough to donate to Locks of Love.
Blueberry & Blackberry Picking | For blueberries, we went to the Mercer Slough. The kids were picking-fools, and at only $1.50 a pound it was quite the deal. In late August, the blackberries finally arrived and Joel & Julie went crazy, loading the kids up in the car any time we had a spare hour to scavenge free berries. Lots of cobbler and jam making ensued.
Julie's Birthday Weekend in Prosser Wine County | What an incredible weekend full of relaxation and fun adventures together. We enjoyed gourmet breakfasts at the B&B, time with Bryce at Bern's Tavern, and diverse wineries ... including our favorite (2 Mountain) and our quirky fav, (Hinzerling with John, photo bottom left). Biking between wineries was where the adventure part came in. "Goat heads" (a spiky plant bud) were our enemy. Joel got a flat our first day of riding. He had a can of fix-a-flat that got us back to our B&B, but the next day we needed preventive measures. "Slime" held the air in his tire until we hit mile 29 or our 30 mile trek on day two.
PROSSER Balloon Festival - September 2011 Warm weather, hot air balloons and cousins made for a great weekend. For Ivah, the best part was the teasing from Uncle Bryce.
 Ivah's 5th Birthday
The Stuenkels hosted another great party with hayrides, cider pressing, bounce house, and a pumpkin hunt. We were blessed with the only rain-free day for two weeks.
Louisa, Ivah & Johann's Fall Birthday Fest
 Joel gets his new Paraglider
Kindergarten Field Trip to Remlinger Farms
Soccer - Fall 2011 | Stina loved playing soccer on Coach Brett and Coach Jeff's team. Her highlight of the year was scoring a goal.
 Pumpkin Carving
 Halloween 2011
We spent one night near the Space Needle, which we could see from our hotel window. The kids loved going up to the top of the needle during the day and then later again at night. Other highlights were riding the monorail and going to the Pacific Science Center where we went to a Planetarium show and saw a 3-D IMAX. Of course the kids thought eating out at restaurants and playing in the hotel pool were great too.
 Seattle November 2011
Thanksgiving The food was great, as was the company. Mark spent hours entertaining the kids with sliding down the stairs. Stina made sure that we played the Thankful Game ... a great Thanksgiving tradition.
Christmas Tree Hunt Our tree hunt was a little unusual this year. Due to state cutbacks, the roads were not plowed and we could not get up to our usual spot. We stopped when we couldn't go further (not in a tree-cut area) and had a fun time sledding and eating/drinking around the fire. On the way back down the mountain without a tree, we stopped where we saw some others cutting trees . We quickly jumped out and each cut a tree near the road.
Random 2011 At Salmon Days, Abe in Gymnastics, riding bikes at Wilderness, and on the ferry to meet Ama & Papa on their boat
 College Crew Christmas
Tacky Christmas sweaters, Santa in long underwear, and drunken Gummy Bears ... oh my! It was another great Christmas party. Jen & Steve hosted us all at their new place in Shoreline. Yummy food and drinks were enjoyed by all!
Fun at the Theater It was a season of going to shows. Right after Thanksgiving, the girls and the Grandmas joined Mom, Ashley and Louisa at Cinderella. In December the girls and Dad joined Grandma and Grandpa at the Village Theater for Annie Get Your Gun. Later in December Stina, Ivah and Mom went to see the Nutcracker, which was extra special because our friend Riah was in the show.
 Cookie Decorating
Christmas Eve We had a great evening at the river. The kids opened gifts, played and then watched a movie while the adults opened our stockings and laughed until our sides hurt.
Christmas Day The kids woke up eager to open their stockings, gifts from Mom & Dad, and eat a cinnamon roll breakfast. We were able to Skype with Kate and sort of feel like she joined us in the Christmas morning festivities. Later in the day we hosted the big family group and had the traditional white-elephant gift steal.
Dancing Bear Lodge in Ashford, WA We were sad to not get Will, Ashley & William for the whole trip, due to a scary penicillin reaction. Aside from that, we had a lot of fun playing games, relaxing, enjoying the little bit of snow that fell, and ringing in 2012 together.
