FC: 2 0 1 1 | Volume 3 | Memories Jake & Becca
Cuckoo Clock Shopping This was our big German souvenir and the one reason we didn't travel much the beginning of 2011. | During our visit to the Black Forest in July with the family, we met the man who built our clock. He is a 5th generation clock maker. Kinda cool, we didn't even know we were going there!!
Istanbul in April This was our first trip of 2011 and we had a great time! Istanbul was very different than all of our other trips but it was nice to see something different. Our favorite part of the trip was our street food tour, YUM!!
The Spice and Grand Bazaar were quite an experience. You must be ready to haggle if you want to buy anything. Turkish delight was also a nice surprise but only in Turkey, we can't seem to find any that are as tasty anywhere else.
We ate dinner at a hookah bar where they had Turkish Whirling Dervishes. | Inside a mosque, I wanted to respect the religion so I covered my head with a scarf. We also had to remove our shoes before entering
People watching in a bar, beautiful view from the top floor of the hotel, and mosques. | Great times in Istanbul!!
Beer Festival We took the train to get there, the train caught on fire then we got on the wrong connecting train and had to pay a fine. That didn't dampen anyones spirit, as you can tell Jake drank so much he kept falling asleep. Oh, and even Germans like the Chiefs see the picture of Joe Montana on one of there stands.
Marci and Jeremy's wedding April 2011
Berlin After arriving in Berlin we started with a Fat Tire bike tour.During the tour we visited many historical sites including Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
Sightseeing in Berlin by bike, our favorite way to travel!
Normandy In June Jake was asked to participate in the D-Day 67th anniversary ceremonies. The squadron offered the spouses an opportunity to fly along for the trip. We spent our week visiting memorials, touring Mont Saint-Michel, and attending ceremonies. It was an amazing experience.
We stayed with our friends in a chateau just outside of town. It was a beautiful place minus the the load peacock that woke us up every morning.
We had a little time to explore so we took a short road trip to Mont Saint-Michel. It was pretty interesting to see and kinda crazy that it was out in the middle of the water.
It was a great experience to see the memorial cemetery and watch all of the ceremonies.
The most amazing part of the trip was watching Jake do fly overs in the C-130.
Flying in the C-130 was scary but exciting. It is a memory we will both remember forever
Class of 2001 10 Year High School Reunion
We had a family picnic during the day at the Columbus city park. That evening we met at the Country Club for dinner, drinks, and dancing. It was a great time getting to see everyone!
Summertime in the States While we were back for the reunion we visited family and enjoyed the summer sunshine which does not come out often in Germany. | Tulsa zoo with Mallory!
Spending time with the family! Horseshoes, sprinklers, and relaxing, summertime is the best!
Family Vacation The family came to visit us this summer and we had a blast! We hit up a local festival, visited the Black Forest, went to Ireland, and ended our tour in Munich.
Black Forest We took a day trip with RTT to the Black Forest. While there we visited a beekeeper, went cuckoo clock shopping, and visited the waterfall in Triberg.
Ireland We did a whirlwind four day tour of Ireland. We started in Dublin, the next day we drove to the Cliffs of Moher and Limerick, and on the last day we went to the Blarney Stone, Cashel and the Wicklow mountains.
 More fun in Ireland
Munich | With Izzy in front of the castle | Beautiful view | Mattie & Bailie | Drinkin at the Hofbrauhaus
We spent my birthday at Disneyland Paris. They have the Sleeping Beauty castle there!! The rain kept the crowd away which meant we didn't have to wait long for the rides.
Paris On the second day we went to an antique market and a fashion museum. At night we went on the Fat Tire bike tour and got drenched by a downpour. We had a great time!
Brussels, Belgium This was our first visit to Brussels and we were kinda sad that we waited so long to visit. It was a very cool city! We even tried Ethiopian food while we were there, crazy!!
Tour of Greece During our tour we visited Athens, Santorini, Chania, and Crete. We had AMAZING food, relaxed, took in the sights and enjoyed our last big trip in Europe. We had a great time!
The food was the best part of the trip. It is not often that we love almost everything we eat when we are on vacation.
There were cats EVRYWHERE! Every cat we saw Jake named them Scooter 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.
Santorini was one of the most beautiful places we have been to. Because we went during low tourist season, it felt like we had the island to ourselves. It was relaxing and again we had great food!
While in Santorini we did a wine tour around the island and a boat tour out to the volcano. We had a great time on both trips but the wine tour was rather expensive for what we got.
Christmas 2011 This was our last Christmas in Germany. We spent a nice day opening gifts and skyping with the family back home. We both got some great gifts including an awesome wine rack and tickets to see the RHCP!
Cologne, Germany This was our last Christmas market trip and it was a great one. Cologne had several markets in the city and all of them had great gifts.
