PA, You're my best buddy ole pal. We're like two peas in a pod. “"STOP...Spin Tires On Pavement."” "We are now passing the dinosaur burial grounds."” "We are now passing over the Old Rio Grande." "You are now entering Camelot, the legendary site of King Arthur's Court. The chariot speed is '52'. Sir Sweet Victor has spoken."” "Hey Amos!" "Hey Sam, hold on to your nuts! Wake up Elmo!"” And of course..."Age before beauty." | the nut doesn't fall far from the tree | -Russ
Being my Pa's neighbor has helped me to realize how important it is to be close to family. I always knew no matter where life took me, I wanted to end up back home. I'm so happy to have land right down the road...even though its not "Froghollow Pond" and I haven't found my "Freddie Croak" yet. My life just wouldn't be the same if you hadn't lived so close to me...some of my fondest memories are of daily chauffeuring to school, singing the whole drive (including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer...all year long), Spinning Tires On Pavement over the sleeper breaker waker uppers and past the dinosaur burial grounds and eating breakfast with the Tastee Freeze Treats on Fridays. You helped me find turtle shells so the Turtle Fairy could visit me and taught me to appreciate some good ole fried squirrel and buttered grits. You have been at just about every sporting event and awards ceremony...and even drove me in the homecoming parade. Funny thing is...I never even get tired of you! I sure am lucky to have you as my Pa...and I can't wait for you to get that big ole buck on my land! Love you lots, Dr. Lacy Lee Longlegs
“"At the picnic table small hands lift the turtle shells to seek the treasures there. She turns, with brown eyes sparkling, the grand-daughter and the grand-father exchange knowing grins. It is only for a golden moment, at a very special time in life."
Daddy, As I searched through pictures for your 80th birthday book, I thought about what others might see in them. They would see a man who loves his family above all and who cherishes the simple things in life...fresh cut grass, trip to the river, walk in the woods, first day of deer season. Thanks for the love you show Rhonda, Lacy, Russ, and me and for showing us that the simple things in life are the most important. - Rusty
and enjoy a good argument with you on occasions. I appreciate your hard work ethic and your willingness to help anyone in need. I applaud that you are a hyperactive senior who is as healthy and strong as a teenager. I adore how you are a kid at heart with a huge imagination. I revere the honor you have given our family and the good example you live by. I treasure the memories we share of being together in celebrations, milestones, vacations...everything we've shared in the past 30 plus years. I thank you for being a great father to Rusty & me, and a wonderful grandfather to Lacy & Russ. I still like you after all these years...I love you just the way you are. - Rhonda | From the first time we met, I knew I would like you. I had no idea how much I would love you. I am grateful we have been neighbors for the past 20 years, so you can be an important part of my life. I admire the way you love without judging, always looking for the good in someone. I respect your character and how you stand strong in your beliefs. I tolerate your strong opinions
Happy Birthday Pa, First I want to thank your for accepting me into your family. When I think of you I always go back to the time you told me the story about how to call a turkey. We were sitting in your living room one evening and you had a turkey decoy and you began to tell me how the Globber would call the Hen. You were standing in the middle of the living room and you started doing your head like a turkey but what was so funny about the story was when you said the Globber would look over at the Hen and she would say this: "Hello big boy why don't you come over and see me sometime." Just the way you told that story makes me laugh every time I think about it. You do bring such joy and happiness to our life. I hope the good Lord lets me live a long healthy life and to be a good christian person as he has done in you. Thank you for everything, Love you, your Daughter- in- law Pam
Happy 80th Birthday. I love you Daddy, Thank you for teaching me the important things in life, like how to read a scrape, bait my hook, always know what to do with the ball before it's hit to you. Then there was love, honesty, the importance of family, and treating your fellowman the way you want to be treated. One of your best gifts to me, my love for the Labor movement. You planted a seed, and I have enjoyed my life in the Union. For someone like you who never knew his father, never experienced a Father's love and care, you could write a training manual on Fatherhood, and it would be a best seller. My goal is always to make you proud. I love you Daddy. Mike
Well PA I do have to say you make "80" look good. I am so thankful to be your grand-daughter. When I was little I loved to listen to your stories, now I love to watch you tell them to Cheyenne & Hunter. PA you are such a wonderful, loving, hardworking Christian man. You have a heart of gold. I Love You PA Happy Birthday Love Always, Tara "Too"
