I spent hours with my mentor learning about Neonatology. For my product i decided to teach a class and reflect on what i have learned through out the year so far. My mentor was Dr. Furlong at Brenner's Children Hospital. In the picture above she is showing me what kind of medicine the infant is on and how he/she is progressing.
My lesson for the class was to present a power point to the students about Neonatology and have them complete the work sheet that followed along.
After the students completed the work sheet i Showed them some of the medical equipment used in Neonatology. I also let them see a set of feet print from a two pound neonate.
The medical equipment they got to see and hold was a NICU blood pressure cuff. They were amazed at how little it was. It fits around your thumb, | I also showed them a NICU hat. They got to visualize how little neonates heads are. Most of the time neonates do not get to wear hats due to IV'S in the head.
The kids loved having hands on. They also got to see a limb band, which is used to monitor the baby; They liked being able to pass it around, and hear about my experience.
