S: March to August 2011
BC: w | This was such a wonderful summer kicked off by a long awaited trip to Hawaii. We had such a great time with Aunt Doreen but next time we will have to get her to go snorkeling with us... or not! I took one day a week vacation in the summer so working 3 days a week was a treat. The kids and I swam almost everyday. I absolutely love swimming when the pool temperature is 90. Keep that solar heater going:) We had a great 4th of July party,a wonderful weekend with the Roaches in Lake Tahoe, watched our seven chicks hatch, enjoyed a visit with Beryl and Cheryl in Sonoma, enjoyed biking with Mia in the front basket, running with Bacchus and just many more good times enjoying each other and the warm weather.

friends | The morning of Nicks birthday we had balloons behind his chair and a happy birthday banner. We got him a nice cinnamon roll, eggs and bacon and yogurt. Of course it was a school day so nothing special there. We had a nice dinner that evening and enjoyed the cake Nina baked and decorated for him. Nick wanted to wait until the summer to celebrate his birthday with his friends. He had his pool party at the end of the school year. He has really great friends. | Nick
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson | to the Graduate | Nick with his medals around his neck for getting above a 3.5 GPA for 7th and 8th grade. After the Graduation we went to BJ's for lunch with Aunt Doreen who flew in the day before. We will soon be off to Hawaii to celebrate Nick and Nina's graduation.
Nick's Graduation ceremony from 8th grade was held at the Sheldon high football stadium. It was as grand as any college graduation I have seen. Student and adult speakers and songs that were heartwarming and inspiring. Nick looked so handsome. We were so proud of him. | Morgan and Nick | Aunt Doreen and Nick | Nick in line to receive his diploma | I am so proud of you Nick
Put your heart, mind, intellect and soul even to your smallest acts. This is the secret of success. ~Swami Sivananda | Nina's Graduation from 6th Grade
Nina's 6th grade graduation was held in the Dillard auditorium. The children all marched in , dressed to impress, and received their diplomas. A few of the kids read a speech that they wrote and then a slide show with baby pictures and school event pictures. It was so touching to see how they grew through the years. | from left to right: Jolene,Haley,Nina,Cammie,Gracie,Erica,Emma | Nina the morning of Graduation
 Our First Hatched Chick
Buffy, our white silky chicken turned out to be a great setter. In the winter she sat on up to 2 dozen eggs at one time but since it was cold none of them hatched. In the spring we marked 7 eggs that she was sitting on and removed the others. We waited patiently, then one day when I went out to see her a little white chick had hatched. It was so amazing. I ran in screaming for everyone to come out and see the chick. | 6 more chicks hatched...the rest were all black. This one under Buffy was the runt. Nina did not want to keep it inside since she thought it was sick and it would get the rest of the chicks sick. We kept it outside with the other chickens. It followed Buffy around all day and slppt under her wings all night. It thrived and is doing great.
Hawaii May 2011 | Along the road to Hana | Ready for a short hike
After much indecision about where to vacation this summer we finally decided on going to Mauii. One of the deciding factors was that Aunt Doreen was going to come with us. We stayed at Honu Kaii which was a beautiful newer resort. The winds were strong most of the time but could not interfere with fabulous surroundings. | At Whalers Village | photo in the hotel lobby
Nick jumping off the cliffs in Hana | We took a drive to Hana, an area of lush foliage and hidden waterfalls. We had heard so much about it. The roads were tortuous and narrow but the scenery was beautiful. We were determined to find the waterfalls that everyone talks about. After a 20+ minute hike and a couple of wrong turns we found "a waterfall". Nick was itching to jump off the top of the cliff like the locals but we adamantly refused. What goes through a teenager boys mind I will never understand. | He did jump off the lower level which was still very high. We all thought he was crazy but it was one of the highlights of his trip.
We never made it all of the way to Hana. We had heard different opinions as if it was worth it or not and we had already been driving a few hours. We had seen enough of the forests and waterfalls and decided to head back for a nice dinner. We were so proud of Aunt Doreen, who is not an outdoors person to make it on the long hike to the waterfalls. What a trouper!
Dining in Paradise | Dukes restaurant at our hotel had wonderful food and a great view. Nothing like a beautiful sunset!
The food in Hawaii was great but my favorite part of our vacation was the snorkeling.Beautiful fish and giant turtles- nothing better.
Hawaiian Luau What could be more fun then eating roasted pig and all of the fixins with a tropical drink by the ocean, watching the Hawaiian dancers move their hips like you can only imagine. This is true Hawaiian culture!
 Great Memories in Paradise.
Back to School Nina's First day of Middle school Nick's first day of High School August 16th | Nina 12 years old | Nick 14 years old
The first day of school is always a bit anxiety provoking but Nick is usually cool calm and collected. Nina usually gets the jitters but I was surprised she was not more nervous since it was a new school. The clothes and hair have to be perfect. Both are in their new Ambercrombie clothes ready for their new experience. | Nina in her new Bikini- NO she did not go to school like this! Last days of summer.
