1: Richard Thomas McCracken and Mary Ellener Johnstone Richard Thomas McCracken was born in 1808 in Monahan Co. Ireland and died July 08, 1890 in Neepawa, Manitoba. He married Mary Ellener Johnstone in 1833 in Ireland. She was born in 1814 in Belfast, Northern Ireland and died February 13, 1903 in Neepawa Manitoba. Records show them out west in Manitoba in 1881. After Richard’s death, Mary moved in with her son John according to the 1901 census of Rosedale, Manitoba. John’s wife, Sarah, died young (at 43) and left 8 children. Richard and Mary had 7 children: 1.Robert Johnstone born 1836, Cootehill, Monaghan Co, Ireland and died 1912 in Manitoba 2.Eleanor born 1838 in Ireland and died December 30, 1901 in Minden, Ontario 3.William born 1841 in Ireland and died January 12, 1875 in Minden, Ontario 4.Margaret born May 24, 1845 in Ireland and died September 1925 in Haliburton County , Ontario 5.Richard was born 1846 in Monaghan Country, Ireland and died 1941 in New Westminster, British Columbia 6.John Boyd was born August 7, 1852 in Minden and died June 13, 1915 in Neepawa, Manitoba 7.Thomas-appeared in the 1861 census for Snowden and no other record-assumed he died young

2: Richard and Roberts' Wives Anne Jane Jackson and Margaret Jane Jackson | Mr and Mrs. Richard McCracken celebrate their diamond Wedding anniversary at their home in New Westminster, BC. They travelled by covered wagon to Neepawa district and remained homesteading at Springhill until 1904 when Richard retired at 65. They lived in Neepawa, Medicine Hat and Royal City before living in New Westminster.

3: William McCracken was born 1841 in Ireland and died January 12, 1875 in Minden, Ontario. He married Sarah Lindsay on December 6, 1866 in Minden. She was born June 9, 1846 in Belfast, Ireland and died July 4, 1891 in Carbon Alberta. | Richard Lindsay, Sarah's father | Dominion Hotel William McCracken was one of the original owners of the Dominion Hotel in Minden. It was bought in 1874 for the sum of $2000. He died shortly after in 1875 and it was run by Sarah until she sold it in 1908. | William and Sarah McCracken

4: Sarah Lindsay McCracken was born in Belfast, Ireland and came to America with her family on a sailing ship. They were on the water for 93 days, in the hold of the ship that had probably brought a load of live cattle to Ireland from America. It must have been a lovely trip in the days when immigrants had to supply their own supplies such as food, bedding etc. They came to America via New York and spent some time at Amsterdam, New York before coming to Upper Canada. Sarah is shown in the 1901 census as living with her son Johnston and wife, Emma, at the Scotch Line. She moved west with them to Carbon, Alberta around 1913 and lived with Johnston until her death. She is buried in Carbon Cemetery. Sarah and William McCracken had three children: 1.Richard (Dick) born September 3, 1867 in Minden, Ontario and died Dec. 21, 1933 in Minden, Ontario 2.Johnston born February 25, 1869 in Minden, Ontario and died October 22, 1935 in Carbon, Alberta. 3.Wrighty (William Wright) born June 18, 1872 in Lutterworth, Victoria County, Ontario and died October 15, 1906 in Minden, Ontario

6: Wrighty and Mary Louisa Snell McCracken Wrighty married Mary Louisa Snell in Minden. She was born December 11, 1880 in Haliburton County, Ontario. They had three children: 1) Almont 2)Willy (William F.) born in 1903 in Haliburton County and died in 1952 3)Wrighty (Wright William) born 1907 in Haliburton County and died 1964 in Haliburton County. He married and had three children: Maxwell C. (1924) who died overseas 1945 during WWII, Leland (1922-1995 Haliburton Co.) who married Rosie and Moss C (1926) who married Helen L. Parish. | Almont, Willy and Wrighty as infants

7: Johnston and Emma Gould McCracken Johnston was born in Minden and died in Carbon, Alberta. He married Emma Gouldie July 13, 1898 in Minden, Ontario. She was born July 25, 1882 in Minden and died in Carbon, Alberta. She was the daughter of Sam Gouldie and Elizabeth Newell, granddaughter of Margaret McCracken, William's sister. They had seven children: 1. Goldsby Clifford born 1901 in Minden and died 1966 in Carbon, Alberta. He married Jessie Langley and had one child-William (Billy) who lived 5 days in Carbon, Alberta in 1951. Jessie had two children from a previous marriage, Donny and Dorothy. 2. William Birttie born 1904, Minden and died 1984 in Carbon, Alberta. He married Katie Abremenko. 3. Wilfred Irvine born 1908 in Minden and died 1991 in Calgary, Alberta. He married Edith Helena Wright and had two children Edith Lynn (1935)and Gale Emma (1942)(who married Kenneth Edwards 1958 and had three children-Edith Connie(1958), Bonnie Lee (1960) and Roderik Blair (1961)) 4. Fredrick Briton born 1909 in Minden and died 1990 in Carbon, Alberta. He married Catherine Elizabeth Beckwith in 1934 and had one child Murray Morton (who married Beverley Saunders in Carbon and had two children Coleen Elizabeth Marie(1973) and Warren Lee (1975) and later in 1992 married Marueen Lysek nee Davidson) 5. Gladys Eileen was born 1911 in Minden and died 1982 in Drumheller, Alberta. She married Sydney Newton Wright 1934 in Carbon, Alberta. They had two children: Wray Winton (1934)(who married Doreen Lilly-Anne Stoen (1956) and had three children Sydney Steven (1958), David Wray (1960)and Janice Diane (1963)) and Gerald Clarence (1945) 6. Gordon Lorne was born 1917 in Carbon, Alberta and died 1968 in Juneau, Alaska. He married Ida Kane and had two children born in Carbon: Gordon Duane (1943) (who married four times. His first wife was Lynn Malik and then Anne Sande with whom he had three children Teena Marie (1962), Gordon Lorne (1967) and Ronald John (1969)) and Terry Norman (1945) (who married Lynn Milton)) 7. Marjorie Phyllis was born 1921 in Carbon Alberta and died 2003 in Alberta. She married John Craddock.

8: Richard and Eliza Jane McCracken Richard (Dick) McCracken was born September 3, 1867 in Minden Ontario and died December 21, 1933 in Minden. He married Eliza Jane Burns on December 25, 1893 in Minden. She was born March 20, 1874 in Minden and died August 2, 1933 in Minden. Eliza was the daughter of Joseph Burns and Mary Ann Quinn. Richard was killed while working on the roads in Minden. A piece of rock fell on him and he was crushed. His wife had died earlier that summer and shortly before his death he had walked from the farm in Minden to Lionel's home in Ingoldsby to make sure that the whole family would be together for Christmas. He died 4 days before Christmas. Richard and Eliza McCracken had 6 children: 1. William Ernest born October 18, 1895 in Minden and died June 21, 1909 in Minden 2. Maxwell –dates unknown– died young and buried in Minden cemetery in an unmarked grave with parents and brother 3.Lionel McCracken born October 3, 1901 in Anson Township, Haliburton Co, Ontario and died January 1992, Niagara Falls, Ontario 4. Harold was born February 23, 1904 in Minden, Ontario and died April 1, 1990 in Minden. 5. Alvin Bertram was born July 19, 1905 in Minden and died June 19, 1982 in Lindsay, Ontario 6. Florence Lillian was born February 8, 1910 in Anson Township, Haliburton County, Ontario and died October, 2007 in Minden.

10: Alvin Bertam and Dora Stella Mae McCracken Alvin married Dora Stella Mae Harrison on January 5, 1931 in Minden. She was born May 27, 1914 in Minden and died December 25, 1991 in Minden. They had four children: 1. Eldon Roy (1931) born in Minden, married Laureen May Arbuthnot in 1947 and had two children: Dorothy Faye (1948) (who married Allan Sharkey and had two children John Allen and Janean) and Sylvia Lauren (1957)(who married Andrew Campbell and had two children Jordan and Malcolm (Mac)) 2. Eleanor Mae (1935) born in Minden married Ronald James Arbuthnot in 1953 and had three children: Robert James (1954) (who married Katherine Johanne Kennedy (of Scotland) and had two children Stephen and Maureen Katherine), Karen Jean (1956)(who married Thomas Kimberly Colliss 1961 and had two children Kristen Louise Victoria and Jamie) and David Richard 3. Mary Carol (1941)born in Minden, married Dale Elwood Trumbull in 1960 and had two children Sandra Dale (1962)(who married Daniel Roland Pottier and had three children Jessica Katherine, Erin Kimberly and Laura Danielle) and Katherine Lynn (1964) 4. Leslie Richard (1946) born in Minden married Judith Faye Berry 1970 and had three children Daryl Wade (1971), Janet lee (1972) and Kyla Dawn (1980). Florence Lillian and Ivan Harrison Florence married Ivan Harrison. They had four children: 1. Wilfred (1931-2001) born in Minden married Joyce Booth and had two children Lawrence (Laurie) and Elaine 2. Helen Ruth (1938-1968) born in Minden 3. Berniece (1934) born in Minden married Doug Casey and had four children Kenneth, Deborah, Audrey and Keith 4. Lloyd (1936) born in Minden married Ruth Arbuthnot and had four children Wayne, Shirley, Gary and Sheila

12: This photo shows the work crew blasting the Minden highway. Richard McCracken and his sons worked on the roads in Minden. | Camps were set up for the road workers. This photo was taken in 1932.

13: The McCracken brothers worked on the farm. They spent time thrashing. Lionel courted Florence Robertson with a horse and buggy. His horse Jewel would never tell tales. In later life Lionel became a stationery engineer and was employed by the Davis Lumber Company in Newmarket during the second world war. Later he worked for the Canadian Carborundun Company in Niagara Falls where he retired at the age of 66 in l965. He joined his wife Florence in Orillia who was teaching school at the Ontario School for the mentally challenged. | The Thrashing Business

16: Lionel and Florence had five children: 1.Joycene (Joy) married Roland Sykes and had four children: Wayne (married Edith and had Len and Mark), Lynn (married Don Ward and had Kevin), Gail (married Robert White and had three children: Lisa, Angel and Corey), Elaine (married Arnold Vandyke and had Stacy and Tim). She later married Ray Parker 2.Ronald married Shirley Petrie and had three children: Charlotte (Randi)who married Bill and had three children: Carrie (who married Bruno Silva and had two children Victoria and Michael), Will and Sharon. Her partner later was Tina Yetman.
