FC: DONYALE August 2009-2010 Our first year together
1: This is the first picture that Donyale and Becky took at their first meeting at Chuck E. Cheese. July 16, 2009 This is also our anniversary
2: The Beginning On Friday July 10, 2009 I got a phone call from Joanne Hampton-Moates, our social worker from Children's Services. We were recruiting the Stingrays tournament over in Columbus. She said to me "Jodi...just hear me out...." I laughed and said "it isn't a boy is it?" She chuckled and proceeded to tell me about a little girl, who was 5 years old, lots of energy, loved to play sports, and had 4 sisters. She told me this girl was special and needed a special family who would help her use up some of her energy and who would help her enrich her "athletic" side. She told me that it had been reported that she had off the chart eye-hand coordination and that she loved to run and do lots of things. Then she ended the conversation with "oh, and she played T-ball and hit the ball over the fence." I thought she was making it up...and I said "really?" and she said according to the email in front of her.....and she read it to me again. I told her that I needed to talk to Becky. She said ok, and told me that Donyale's social worker would be getting a hold of me... Well, we didn't hear anything the rest of that day or over the weekend. But on Monday, Donyale's social worker called Becky and talked to her. Becky said that we would be interested in meeting her and so she called her foster mom, Lisa, and set up a meeting. I was unable to attend because I had to work. But Becky met Lisa and Donyale and her 2 sisters DeeDee and Danielle at Chucky E CHeese in Springfield on July 16, 2009. Becky said it was love at first sight. She sent me a picture on her cell phone and couldn't wait to tell me all about it. She said Donyale was a beautiful little girl that had a smile that was absolutely gorgeous, and that she was talkative, and had TONS of energy. She said that she loved shooting the basketballs in the basketball machine and that she ran all over the place. Then took a picture and left. | We got Donyale for the first over night visit on Friday, July 17. She spent the entire weekend with us. We went to Tipp City to watch my niece play softball and meet my family. We stopped by Kettering Fields to recruit alittle, then headed to Let's PLay Ball. Donyale hit and played for a long time. When we had to take her back on Sunday, both of us cried. We didn't want to give her back. But we had to. | She spent the next weekend with us and we spent it....at the ballpark with our 18u Xpress team. She played from the time we got there until we left. She had the dads playing ball with her, throwing, hitting, and running. It was hilarious to watch all of those dads out there playing with her. It was non-stop. We went to eat at Fricker's before we took her home...and we were walking out of Fricker's she said "are we going back to the ballpark? I want to play some more." There was NO doubt at this point that she was a perfect fit for our family. | We left for Hawaii on July 29. It was so hard for us to leave. We fell instantly in love with her. We didn't want to leave her. While we were in Hawaii, our thoughts of her consumed us. We couldn't wait to get home and start our life with our beautiful daughter. We got home on August 5, and 12:00pm and she was moving into our home at 5:00pm! we had 5 hours to establish her room and get it ready for her arrival. Our perfect beginning to our family!
