FC: The 5 Themes of Geography!
Austin was just a lonely lumberjack in the Canadian wilderness. He had never been to a school and didn't know anything except being a lumberjack. Austin is a very strong man who rip mini trees in half, like twigs.
One day an American man came moved into the a log cabin near Austin. Austin had never met an educated person before. So he immediately greeted him and told him about his life of a lumberjack. The man told him he was a Geography professor in Kansas. Austin had never heard of Geography before and was excited to learn. The professor asked Austin if he knew what location was, Austin said no and asked what it is. The professor told him that location is the geographical situation of people and things. Austin still didn't understand so professor gave him an example. "That tree is north of that rock." Now Austin=n understood what he meant by location.
Now that Austin has learned something about geography, he has continued to ask the professor questions. One day while Austin was out chopping trees down, the professor asked him if he knew anything about "Human-Environment Interaction". Austin shook his head and asked what it is. The professor said " Human-Environment interaction is basically how we affect and are affected by the environment, and also how we disturb the natural environment If it is snowing outside, you will become cold. If you chop this tree down, it disturbs all the animals living in it, and it affects them." The Austin exclaimed, "I get it now! You are a good pal Professor.
By now, Austin thought he knew everything there was to know about geography. But there was much more he needed to learn. The professor knew that Austin wanted to learn more, so he invited Austin over for dinner. They were having a good conversation about why each other lived here. Austin was raised here and this is all he knew, then the professor asked if he knew about the Place. Of course he knew the place, but the professor wanted to know if he knew the place geographically. "Place means, the human and physical characteristics of a location." said the professor, "You know, mountains, rivers, and valleys. That sorta thing."
N | Now that Austin new some geography things, he decided he should go down to the local library to find a book on geography. Austin found a book that had the term Movement. He ran as fast as he could to the professor's house. Once he got there he showed the professor, and then asked, "But what does it mean?". "It means the movement and migration across the planet." replied the the professor.
Now the professor was getting very old, he was already old when he moved here. Austin visited him everyday to learn something knew from him before he passed away. One day while Austin was asking silly questions, the professor said to him "Would you like to learn the last theme of geography?" and almost instantly Austin answered, "YES!! Please tell me!" The professor pointed his finger to his books in a case. Austin went over and picked up the one that had "Region" labeled on the cover. He brought it over to the professor, and he told him " You must learn this last one by yourself, i cannot help you anymore." Then Austin took the book home and after a few days, he realized that meaning for Region, it divides the world into manageable units for geographic study. Regions have some sort of characteristic that unifies the areas.
