FC: DWIGHT D. Eisenhower
Dwight D Eisenhower was one of the greatest generals of all time. His family was pretty poor but his talents got him to West Point. He ranked 61 out of 164 men at West Point. He started under George S. Patton where they began a wondrous friendship.
Eisenhower was in the tanks corps for his service at the start in 1920 thats where he started to train with tanks at fort Meade. | It was an assignment for Eisenhower where he got more familiar with the armor than the others. He was assigned under George S. Patton.
Eisenhower met General Fox Connor at the camp. He was a big part of Eisenhower's life. Eisenhower went with the General to Panama. This happened in 1922. Eisenhower became Connors chief of staff. Connor taught him some things throughout Panama.
Dwight Eisenhower was a chief of staff for a long time until Pearl Harbor happened and George C. Marshall wanted him. He looked up to Marshall. The British told Marshall that Eisenhower was the right man for commanding general on June 25 1942, but permanently he was a colonel still.
The war from 1942-1945 was full of important missions. There was a big one called TORCH. Eisenhower and Marshall both didn't want this mission to go because it put allied troops in North Africa. Eisenhower had his most trouble with this mission but it gave him some learning experience for the future.(here is a map of the other allied missions)
After TORCH Eisenhower knew it was time. All the other missions or duties were just opening acts and the next campaign was the main event. Operation OVERLORD was the mission to win the war and thought this would be the turning point. The mission was very important to the war were the Allied forces would invade Normandy. The picture above shows the command team.
The day was June 5 1944, the day was known as D-day. The picture above shows General Eisenhower talking to the troops for the D-day assault in where they will invade one of the 5 beaches. This day is one of the most important in U.S. History. | This picture shows Dwight D. Eisenhower getting ready for D-Day
The D-day assault had Allied troops invade Normandy Germany. Dwight Eisenhower's reputation was boasted by this day. He led the troops through dangers and war. Eisenhower put this all in his hands and came out with the victory. The pictures are from the Assault. Eisenhower created along with Marshall one of the largest armies in War history.
After the war Eisenhower went to the German concentration camps and saw the horrors of the camps. He saw all of the Jewish people dead in the ditches of all the camps. There were graves, dead people, bad odor Eisenhower went out to vomit he was so disgusted.
In my opinion Dwight D. Eisenhower is in the Wall Of Fame. He is in that category because he lead millions of troops to victory on D-day and made one of the most historical moments in history. He also influenced many people during his reign as supreme commander.
