FC: Hurricanes By Lindsey Wight

1: Hurricane- a tropical storm with violent wind that forms over the ocean

2: Hurricanes form from when there's a cyclone over the equator in the ocean. The warm air rises creating a low pressure system. The surrounding areas have higher air pressure.

3: 10,000 people die in hurricanes each year. | Rains from the storm can cause floods and mudslides. Hurricanes can cause tremendous damage to houses and buildings.

4: Historical Hurricane- Galveston Hurricane August 10,1915. It was the most damaging hurricane in United States history. the damage cost over $7 million and there was 6,000+ deaths.

5: During a hurricane you should -listen to the local radio for weather reports. -Know the evacuation routes. -Secure your home. -Make arrangements for pets if you have them. -prepare to evacuate. | Some HIstorical hurricanes are: -

6: Predicting Hurricanes | There are two ways meteorologists predict hurricanes. By seasonal probabilities and the track of a current hurricane. | Seasonal probabilities- Meteorologists make predictions of how many hurricanes will make land fall according to hurricanes in the previous year. | Track- Meteorologists predict the track of a hurricane 2-3 days in advance. as the days go on error decrease.

7: Interesting facts- -The fastest hurricane was 70 MPH, the average is 20 MPH. -the first time some one flew into a hurricane was in 1943. during world war II. -Australians call hurricanes willy-willies.
