2: Since the early Indians arrived the technological advancements and life styles changed. Some newly discovered artifacts led scientists to believe that people arrived about 18,000 years ago. The Paleo Indians used spheres and the Archaic Indians used atlatls. The Paleo Indians hunted and they gathered food. The archaic Indians traded and grew crops. The Indians life was harder than areas.
4: The information about the 3 language groups of old Virginia. The 3 language are the Algonquian, Siouan, and the Iroquoian. The Algonquian lived mostly in the Coastal Plains. The Iroquoian lived in the Appellation Plateau. The Siouan mostly lived in the Piedmont. They built mounds, traded with other Indians, and planted crops. The Cherokee was a huge group in the Siouan. Those are the about 3 language tribes.
6: The effects of English settlement to the Native Americans were that they had less land. The Racial Integrity act made it so whites couldn't marry Indians because they didn't want to mix the skin colors. The Indians had to call themselves colored because it was illegal to say you were Indian. 50,000 Native Americans died of diseases brought to America by the whites. The Indians really had a hard time.
8: Bob McDonald declared that in Virginia November is American Indian month. He wants us to recognize that Indians are part of are society as well as are history. The government wants to update the knowledge about the Native Americans for the SOL archives. 6 out of 11 tribes in Virginia are recognized by the federal government. The government wants us to be nice to the Indians.
