1: The paleo, archaic and eastern woodlands Indians learned from each other and their technology got better and better. The paleo Indians used spears and they hunted and gathered. The archaic Indians were more advanced than the paleo because the paleo used spears while the arcaick used an atlatl a special tool easier to use. They also started farming and stored the food in the winter and traded. So they got more advanced.
3: The Indians of Virginia were divided into three language groups. They were Algonquian, Siouan and Iroquoian. The Algonquian mostly lived in the coastal plains. Iroquoian lived in the app. Plateau. Siouan stayed mostly in the piedmont region. These three groups traded and planted.
4: The effects of English settlement and some laws had some bad impacts for Indians. The Racial Integrity act that lasted from 1924 to 1967 made it illegal for colored people to marry whites. The Racial Integrity act was established because the Government was worried what a child would be when a married colored and white gave birth. The next bad effect is that European diseases killed a lot of Indians, dropping the population of Indians a lot . Finally, land was reduced for Indians during war. There were a lot more bad effects but there are good ones.
6: People are beginning to preserve Indian history and cooperating with tribal goverment. One reason is that Bob McDonnel declared that in Virginia November is American Indian heritage month. Another reason is McDonell also thinks we should also recognize their present lives. the next reason is that a meeting was held to update the SOL archives so children will learn more about Indians. The final reason is that McDonnel believes that state and tribal governments should partner up. People like Bob McDonnel want to preserve Indian history and cooperate with each other.
