North Korea made public claims on Tuesday that they have missiles that are able to reach the United States. They commented that they have been working on the ability to reach the United States for a long time. Analysts are questioning whether that’s actually possible because they haven't actually tested that. They also don't think that’s something Korea is actually working toward. Along with the United States they claim they can also reach Japan and Guam.
Eleven people were counted dead after hurricane Sandy passed through Cuba. More than 3,000 buildings were ruined along with many citizens’ homes. Electricity was out and most phones would not work. It was said that hurricane Sandy could have a bigger impact than hurricane Irene did, last year. About 70% of the roads were flooded and people with trucks were charging five dollars to pull their vehicles to higher ground. This is important to us because they might ask for help from us and use some of our money to rebuild.
15 year old Malala Yousufzai was shot for speaking out the right to an education. She was shot a couple times, but did not die. She was sent to a hospital in Britain where she was then reunited with her family. She was then sent to another hospital in Birmingham to receive specialized treatment for her injuries. Her father, Ziauddin Yousufzai, said that she would return home after her treatment was done. Her recovery is going fast and she cannot wait to get home. This is important to us because everyone here gets and education, which makes the other countries want one too. If more girls try more may get shot.
Three West Fargo people were arrested after an officer shot one of the tires on the car. The officer told two of the people to get out of the car and they refused. After refusing the commands, they started the car and tried to drive away. The officer, fearing someone would get ran over, shot one of the tires. The two people then got out of the car and were arrested. The third person was found in a room, in the Sunset Motel, on outstanding warrants. This is important to us because it teaches us to respect authorities.
A Colorado teenager confessed to the abduction and murder of 10 year old. Austin Sigg, 17, showed up for his first court appearance for the killing of Jessica Ridgeway and an assault on a 22 year old female runner in May. Jessica was said missing on October 5 while on her way to school. Her body was found five days later not intact at a park in Arvada, about nine miles away from her home. Sigg is being held for suspension and has another hearing on Tuesday. This is important to us because it shows us who to trust and who not to trust and be careful of strangers.
