FC: The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

1: From the 16th to the 19 centuries slaves were transported to the colonies in South and North America. The majority of the slaves were African. They were sold by Africans to European slave traders.They were transported cheep and quick and considered cargo. Therefore the conditions were awful.The English colonies

2: called the imported Africans "indentured servants or apprentices for life". By the 17th century they were called property by the legal owners. 60,000 Africans a year were packed in to ships in terrible conditions and many did not survive the passage across the Atlantic.

3: The demand for slaves grew and so did the profit from the slave trade. Many whites in Europe and America thought that Africans were in inferior humans and racism began. This racism justified mistreatment towards the slaves.
